Hey yall. I've been thinking about getting another 9mm. I have had a Ruger P95 for several years now and have never had a problem with it. Its an awesome, simple and reliable handgun. Recently however, I have really been eying the M&P 9 range kit. My dealer can get it to me for $623 after tax. I've thought about trading my P95 in against that balance as it is still in good condition. From what I have found, the M&P is liked by most if not all folks that own them. Any input is appreciated!

Just wondering, have you checked out the new striker fired pistol by HK known as the VP9. It's about the same price as the Ruger you mentioned. Trigger is supposed the be the best thing on the market now. I haven't tried one......yet!

For around 600 or less bones you can also get the M&P pro in 4.25 or 5" pick your poison.

I'd rather have one of these than a regular M&P with range kit. I love shooting my friends pro 5", it's a great little gun. Much better trigger than my old 9c, and lighter than my Shields trigger.

Either way you'll eventually miss the Ruger, but there's nothing like a new pistol to scratch that itch.

I'm a big fan of shooting the full size M&P and carry a 9c, which is also a great shooter. However, this range kit deal seems a bit dubious to me. Unless your dealers kit is something different, as far as I can tell, it's a full size M&P, double mag pouch, magazine loader and hard case. That seems a bit steep considering buds has brand new M&P's at $441. You can get a nice kydex holster and mag carrier for the difference and still have money for ammo.

Edit to add: Is this a standard M&P or a Pro? If it's a Pro, I retract the above.

Thanks.

I love my P95. Carried its aluminum-framed predecessor, the P85, as an issued sidearm way back. Loved that one, too.

Only striker-fired pistol I'd trade it toward would be another Ruger, the SR9.

Big D,,, Your LGS is putting the big d to you at that price for a M&P 9mm anything.

I live work and shop in the Tulsa area. Many fools here still think money squirts out of the ground and Tulsa is still the oil capital of the world. That stupid title was lost officially in 1967.

I can go to the most expensive LGS in Tulsa or say Bass Pro and leave with a 5" Pro for $100 cheaper OTD than your LGS is quoting you. Or get a CORE Pro for $10 less than your LGS quote.

I own a 9mm Talo FS and a .45 FS M&P. There great pistols. I regularly feed my .45,,, .45 Super ammo.

The 9mm Talo New and it's first target.

The .45 with first targets.

The .45 as it is this morning setting on the desk with me loaded with some near .45 Super 230gn Gold Dot ammo.

As for your Ruger. Keep it! It didn't cost much new. It's not worth much used. It is a great solid brick of a pistol. You will regret getting rid of it as part of a new pistol buy.

Good Luck

CZ P09 is a great pistol as are most of the CZ line of 9mm. I own the P09 and love it. Go to Automatic Accuracy online (http://automaticaccuracy.net/ )and is located in Conway, AR. Matt, the owner, shoots for CZ, tell him Mr. Harp sent you. His prices are very reasonable and better than most. The P09 holds 19 rounds in the clip and that says alot right there. So if capacity is a consideration, the P09 holds the most. Was really surprised on just how accurate the pistol was out of the case. It is my primary carry pistol for the Jeep. For the house, the 45 Glock, model 41 is my choice.

CZ75 in stainless...

I was at a LGS yesterday looking for a compact 9mm and stumbled across the CZ75 in stainless. Oh boy, what a piece. I have a CZ-75BD which is a terrific if not THE best 9mm out there so it was tough not to add the '75 stainless to the collection. I don't know what your requirements are for a new 9mm but consider this model of CZ. As for my choice in a carry 9mm, I opted for the Ruger 9E. With a 17 round magazine at $350, it was a no brainer.

If you like the P95, consider a nice DA/SA gun, like a Beretta PX4 or 92FS :)

^^^^^^^^^ +1 on Shipwreck's opinion.

Shot a P95 last Summer and liked it. Shot a Px4 and loved it...bought the Px4 in subcompact and it is my favorite 9mm ever. I did upgrade the sights on my Px4 to adjustable as others use the gun and the sights just did not shoot to POA.

Other than that my Px4 has digested thousands of rounds of everything and never missed a lick. If you liked yer P95, check out one of the Px4 Storm variations.

Keep the P95, it is a solid performer, and you will not get much for it anyway. There are so many great 9mm pistols out there. I like SIG and H&K , but you can't go wrong with Voodoo's suggestion of the Beretta PX4, a very nice shooting gun. At last count I have 11 9mm pistols and like them all. My favorite is the Sphinx SDP.

If it's a range gun, you really have to try a CZ 75 series pistol before you make your decision. If, you're going to carry at all, look at a Ruger SR9c. The CZ's steel frame makes it less ideal for carry, but they have a PCR that has an alloy frame that should be great, as well as a P01. I have neither, but I have another alloy CZ, and it should work fine for carry (or range.)

For several years my best shooting & most accurate pistol was a CZ75B.
It would shoot tight groups offhand @ 15 yds.
Then I tried a Grand Power K100 Mk7.
The GP shoots tighter groups @ 25 yds than my CZ does @ 15.
Amazing!
Kind of a bummer though as I was all hopped up on CZ's.

I know it's not the gun you asked about, but the HK VP9 is the 9mm that has got my attention these days. I got a chance to handle one at my LGS and it's got me seriously thinking of getting one. The grip feels wonderful in the hand and can be fit to about any hand, the build quality is head & shoulders above any of the other polymer pistols out there and the trigger is very crisp & is best by far of any striker fired gun I've tried. Honestly the HK just seems to have raised the bar all the way around for this type gun. The only negative I've found is the high cost of spare magazines.

The first question is 'what will you be doing most with the pistol'?: target shooting, occassional plinking at a range, maybe some competition, or ....???

Answer this and pick the model that matches your preference.

The only negative I've found is the high cost of spare magazines.

They are around 39 bucks (15rd) on most online retailers sites.

I guess it depends on what your used too.

The VP9 is a pretty awesome gun. I got mine for $599 with factory installed Meprolight tritium night sights and two mags. If you can get a deal comparable to that then you might want to consider trying it. It's about as big as I would go for CCW but it's great for everything else.

I also like the H&K VP9 ,as I shot my brother's yesterday and it is fine striker. Like all the other H&K's that I have it is a real shooter and I plan to get one. I like it much better than the SIG P320.

I agree with those who think that dealer is charging you waaaay to much. On Bud's it's $533 shipped for the M&P9 Range Kit.

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...1/S&W+M&P9+Carry+and+Range+Kit+17+1+9mm+4.25"

Good luck with whatever you choose.

A friend of mine at work just bought this package from buds, considering besides the mag pouch and holster it comes with a 3rd magazine, it's a solid deal at that price. Throw in the S&W military/Leo discount of $50 and its pretty worthwhile.
