I am thinking about buying a new mid-priced inline muzz gun and not sure what I should buy. I have been shooting and hunting with a side hammer gun for 30+ years so this inline will be a new experience for me. I like the Encore but that is too much money and frankly I don't feel TC's lack of quality control or customer service warrants that kind of price.

The Omega appears to be a very simplistic trouble free design and has good customer reviews but the feel at the shoulder is not great for me. The Knight rifles appear to be well designed and built also. I liked the Knight Disk Extreme they had a few years back, the one that had the monte carlo style stock. I should have bought one then. I have also thought about the Savage Mod 10-II smokeless gun.

I want a rifle capable of good accuracy out to at least 150 yards, prefferably more. This will require a good trigger, scope, and effort to work up the right bullet/load combination. An adjustable trigger would be a big help.

Any info and feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

#1 on the Savage.
:D

If you like shooting a modern rifle for the convience of cleaning and choice of sighting systems, bullet choices ect. the Savage is for you. You need to go over to some of the other forums found by searching for smokeless muzzleloading and do some reading. A little research can go a long way toward making it a painless and rewarding transistion from sidelock shooting to the Savage.

My Savage 10 ML II in stainless and laminated wood stock wears a Leupold 3x9 Vari X II in a set of stainless Warne quick disconnect rings. It will shoot a MOA three leaf clover shaped group with all holes touching at 100 yards regularly as long as I do my part. This is using a a .452 300 grain Hornady XTP hollowpoint, a MMP short black sabot and 45 grains of AA4744. Cleanup is as easy as wiping out the barrel with some Shooters Choice solvent.

Afraid I'm a Knight fan....at least the earlier ones. Bought my first in 1985 (MK85) and later the Master Hunter. My boy's have a Master Hunter and T-Bolt (no longer made). All are in 50 caliber and scoped. From a purely asthetics point of view, the newer "Revolution" looks like the design team laid an egg.

Earlier rifles had the Lothar-Walther barrels (excellent) newer rifles have the Green Mountains. The upper end ones have Timney triggers and more features.

As far as accuracy, mine will group less than 2" all day long at 200 yards.

I now have a new stainless Savage 10ML-II with laminated stock on the way. Should be here this week. I'll then see for myself what all the fuss is about smokeless muzzle loading.

From all that I have read, there are many happy owners and the facts will speak for themselves. I hope to have this gun set up and on the range by weekend. I will have a lot to learn but from what I understand, the learning process is quick and easy.

Smokeless muzzle loading is all about ease of use, convenience, and better performance. My old TC Renegade shooting 100 grains of real black powder and a Hornady 240 grain XTP-HP sabot has a muzz velocity around 1650 fps and is slowing down quick at 100 yards.

The Savage has a higher velocity at 100 yards than my BP gun does at the muzzle and can shoot with precision at far distances provided the shooter does his part. My old BP gun needs to be cleaned soon after shooting. You can clean the Savage next week, next month, or at the end of the hunting season. It doesn't matter because there is no corrosive elements left inside the barrel from the smokeless powder that draws moisture and causes rust like the BP does.

I expect good things from the Savage and look forward to some hunt trips with it. Some will prefer to stay with the traditional style and inline BP guns and some will make the switch to smokeless as it gains popularity. Not a problem. Just enjoy what you have and shoot.
