Thinking about buying a CZ 452

CZs are hard to beat for the money. They have a couple of weaknesses, one real and the other cosmetic.

The factory trigger on the 452 is not the greatest. Fortunately, this is easily fixed with a Brooks kit, or one of the several aftermarket triggers. I personally like the RifleBasix, but I also have a Timney which works well but requires inletting the stock.

I don't care for the stamped steel trigger guard, but it is no worse than the one on the much loved Winchester 52. There is an aftermarket trigger guard, but it's not cheap and the maker can be sloooowwww.

My favorite is the 16 inch, but my 17HMR varmint gets a lot of use too.

I don't have much more to add above what others have said about the 452. I have one & it's an excellent gun. Probably one of the best gun purchases I've ever made. Other guns certainly have positive aspects to them, but I doubt you'll have many regrets if you go with a 452.

You might consider getting the Lux instead of the Trainer. It's not that much more money and the wood is better. For a gun you want to keep for a long time, better wood is a good investment (I think). There are a couple of guns I have where I went with the cheaper/plainer wood, and while they still work fine and are nice guns, I kind of wish I'd have gone with the better (walnut) stocks.

Good luck with whatever you decide - you're smart going with a .22 as your first long gun. Cheap to shoot and easy to learn on. When you're shooting bigger things in the future, that .22 will still be enjoyable to shoot and enable you to introduce new shooters to the sport.

The Scout is a kids rifle.

Well, technically it is. ;)

My first Scout which I bought to use as a teaching aid to shoot with for my nieces and nephew was too pretty to let their grubby little hands on and so kept it for myself. Bought another one to teach with.

Wood quality of the CZ rifles has always been a crapshoot in terms of asthetics for the most part. You may find a regular old beechwood model that is better than any of the higher grades and vice verse. (As noted by the Scout picture above.)

The only reason why I brought up the Scout was that if tigre is on the smaller side it might have been a good fit.

I took a co worker and his wife shooting one time, his wife was all of 4'11" and 90 lbs soaking wet. She liked shooting my shotguns but the lop was wrong for her height. A youth model shottie would have been a much better fit.

Oh yes, quite right. But, they're still OK for big people too. :)

I did some research and bought a trainer with the hogback last fall. It's my only .22, but it is the best shooting of any I have shot. Easily minute of squirrel at 50 yards and is a blast to shoot. I have had thoughts of scoping it, but I can't get over my love for the iron sights. It is a very high quality gun and I expect it to last a long time.

CZ's are awesome!

this history is there
the quality is there

they make other .22 seem down right flimsy

in terms of robust build the only other 22 that comes close is the ruger 77/22 which can't compet on price or quality.

I have a 453 and absolutely love it.

Check out rimfire central, there are always / will be more people in the CZ forum then any other forum.
