I think Kimber as a whole makes the best looking 1911's on the market. That said, I have only actually spent any time with one, and it was a small carry model. It ran 100%. I really liked the gun, but remember thinking at the time that it didn't seem like a $500+ better gun than my polymer M&P. That's not to say it wasn't a great gun, but it didn't change my perception of handguns the way people hype the 1911.
I still want a 1911, but haven't been able to justify it yet. FWIW, at a very well respected shop here in our area, I did some checking on all the major 1911's, from RIA all the way to Wilson Combat. I stopped at the Dan Wesson and Kimber Eclipse. The Kimber was just beautiful, but the entire shop was unanimous in it's opinion that the Dan Wesson is the much better gun. Given the choice, I would take the DW.
Now, if only DW would match Kimber's sense of style......
