Somebody in their marketing department has finally decided to throw us a bone and give us the option to buy their product without all the craptastic "free extras". I just wish this wasn't "limited time only", and wish they had been doing it when I bought the two I already own.

My thoughs on the "XD Gear" are as follows.
  • Holster. I'm a lefty, so it's worthless to me anyway. If I were a righty? I still wouldn't use it. On my first XD, I actually asked Springfield send me a lefty paddle holster, which they did (kudos to them). After buying proper aftermarket holsters, I'll never screw with an XD Gear holster again.
  • Mag pouch. I don't like my mags canted to different angles, and it won't fit the 1.75" belts I wear. Not useful.
  • Mag loader. I can handle loading 'em the old fashioned way, thanks.

According to Springfield, the XD Gear stuff is an $80 value. I'd rather see them offer it as an optional kit at a "discount" for those that want it, because I don't doubt there are people out there who are totally satisfied with it. For the rest of us, it's money down the drain. That extra $80 in our pockets would get us a good holster, a set of mag pouches and a new belt, practice ammo, 15 cheeseburgers. . .

I agree that it would be nice it the XD Gear stuff were optional. I've never used the holster or mag pouch either and I use an Uplula loader so I don't use the loader either.

At least Springfield still includes two magazines. Certain manufacturers of pistols which have a considerably higher price tags than the XD's, even with XD Gear, decided to go the one magazine route for whatever misguided reason (Sig, Kimber). There's just something wrong about paying a 4-figure price for a pistol and then having to buy an "optional" second magazine.

Being left-handed the holster was useless, but I liked the auto clip loader.
If you buy a Springfield pistol pack and you are left handed, send them an e-mail with your serial # and they will send you a left handed paddle holster. It worked for my XD45C, and my 1911 Loaded.

Damn straight!
This one-mag policy is annoying and insulting - if I wanted a pistol that I had to stop shooting to inset more rounds, I'd buy a revolver!
Hahahahaha, very good point. I understand adding the "extras" to pad profitability, but I'd rather them just pad it with a moderate mark-up, which it looks like they're doing now.

I would have bought mine without the "extras". Never used anything but the mag loader, and I have others that work better.

Love my XD9, though.

I'm not a fan of the XD gear either. But does it matter? The price of the XD is up there with all the other pistols in its class the gear is not bumping up the price. It's probably real cheap for springfield to manufacture the "gear" and throw it in to make and attractive package.

I am a huge fan of the XD series, but I do not like the "gear" I wish an extra flush mag had been included instead, but I'm sure that would reduce profits.

It would be really cool to see a promotion that included premium XD Gear. Like a metal carrying case, a special XD branded knife, and a black magazine, or maybe a leather holster or something better for concealed carry applications.

To all reading this: if you are thinking about buying an XD do so. They are easy to clean and maintain, accurate, reliable, and affordable.
