hi guys i'm looking and the new mp9c with thumb safety. anyone have good/bad experiences with it. pls let me know. i also got a quote from my local gun shop for around $500 out the door. is that a good price?
thanks in advance!

I really like mine. It's a great little compact 9mm that takes the high cap mags from the full size M&P9mm. Conceals well, carries great in my Crossbreed IWB, and is very accurate for such a small pistol. Pick one up you won't be sorry. :D $500 new is about right, I bought mine used with 4 mags, box of 50 Speer HP, and holster for $500 in December. IMHO, you can't go wrong with this pistol.

I have the compact and the Pro version, they are both great shooter, and reliable as it gets. I like the fell of both of them, better ergonomics than anything else I have fired in a long time.

Ironically I actually just wrote a full review on the Smith M&P9C in the latest issue of HuntX3 Magazine! I bought it and I really like it. Accurate, light, simple and pretty easy to conceal.

If you'd like to read my review check it out in the latest issue of HuntX3 Magazine. Head over to the website at www.HuntX3.com and click on "Read Latest Issue" on the right.

The M&P is a fine platform, and $500 is a fair price for a new one.

More than fair, in my state.

I don't like the external safety models, though. The safety looks like it was attached as an afterthought.

I wouldn't think twice. I have had one for some time with 2000+ rounds with no problem. I would have bought the thumb safety back then If they had had it. That seems to be a decent price too.

I liked the one my wife had for a while, but at the end of the day, it was no CZ.

That said:
I'd choose a M&P over a Glock for a uniform duty weapon.

better ergonomics and trigger (for me) the thing was deadly
on full pop cans- with Double Tap +P ammo.

as always, thanks guys for all your expertise! hey madcap magician, i was actually thinking of the same thing with the thumb safety. yeah i was able to compare my glock 19 with my friend's m&p9 (full size). both great and easy to shoot but i just like the m&p ever so slightly!. next week i'll compare the 26 with m&p9c.
p.s. great pic CZ fan!

Very reliable and easy to carry.

I did not know (though it should have been patently obvious) that the one with the ambidextrous safety cannot take a CT grip, and S&W tells me the gun cannot be altered. They sell a model with a safety and a laser grip.

The sights on the gun are fine for normal lighting--when one is probably least likely to have to use it. :)

I may trade for one with CT grips.

There's no break in period but it took a few boxes of ammo to make me confident in the reliability.

I will not carry a semi auto without a thumb safety.

I can highly recommend it. One I purchased in early 2007 had 100% perfect reliability from the very first round and was very comfortable and accurate to shoot. Unfortunately it was a casualty of the recent economy. My sole criticism of it is the rather wide slide, which makes it a little "chunky" or "top heavy" and less comfortable to carry IWB than a slimmer gun. The slide does need to be fairly massive for the .40 and .even 357 SIG calibers it is also chambered for, but a dedicated 9mm slide could be narrower.

to kleanbore, that's my biggest fear also. one night after a trip to the E.R. i found myself and my wife at a cvs pharmacy at 0130. before we walked in, i loaded my glock 26 one in the chamber. now i know all glock owners will say, "that's how you should carry a glock"!. but for me i was just terrified. cmon guys, i know there's alot of us out there. my reason is, hey i'm not a cop,nor has had the extensive training to be carrying a glock with one in the chamber. i guess the thumb safety is more of a psychological thing for me. so same here, i will not carry a semi auto without a thumb safety. thanks kleanbore!

What training is required to carry a glock with one in the pipe? This is news to me. I guess I should stop carrying them till I attend this as yet unknown course.

I bought my first M&P, and before I knew it I had four more. What kind of Voodoo do they do to these things! My wife really wants to know.

gglass, the voodoo's got me! i have the MP9c w/thumb safety in order. out the door for $498.12!!! it should be in my hands by valentines day!
