i started to clean and get a good look at the firearms i bought, this savage 99 in .308 win. is in very good used condition with a ex bore. what is different is that a see thru german quick detachable scope mount(AKAH) was added with the original bases soldered on the 99 and has been used for years to hunt deer with no problems at all and the seller said it retained zero when taken off and reinstalled. the scope is a lower end tasco 4x and has not fogged even tho the eye piece had to be taken off to put the rear scope ring on. what gets me is the 99 savage was factory tapped for a scope and it would have been simpler to put a newer set of rings and bases on it. eastbank.

I've been hunting with my 99 in .308 for several decades. It has a Simmons 2 - 7X scope which is sturdy with very bright optics. Bases and rings are by Weaver. My experiences with this rifle have been most outstanding indeed.

I still have an older TASCO 4X mounted to my heavy recoiling 12 gauge slug gun. Its never given me any problems so why replace it?

i have seen that type of mount on pre-ww-2 german rifles and combo rifles, i just didn,t expect to see one on a savage 99 as the 99 is of the same time frame when weaver and other makers made quick detatchable mounts and the 99 is factory drilled and tapped. eastbank.
