Sorry it has taking me so long to get back to the thread, but I had to put this build on the back burner.
I got kind of busy with work and Christmas that there wasn't much time to play.
The handrail arrived in early Dec. I cought it on a Christmas sale for $150 shipped.

Well I got tired of waiting on my friend to set up the deal to have the lower painted so, I got it done.

My daughter's friend came by a few weeks ago and had me show her how to build an AR. She told me that she wants to help me build this one too. So I'm going to wait until the weekend to build it.

Probably a little late to ask, but since it's a pirate theme build, did you get the "AARGH!" dust cover? Picked one up from Spike's Tactical for a build a while ago. Jolly Roger and all that on a rifle. My small tweak on the nose of convention.

To Each His Own ....

Sort of a necro-thread going on, but sometime suppliers are slow getting items to you for a particular build. Have had that happen.

For the lower, I like that Spartan-themed one (pictured above) better than the skull. But I have to say, your paint job is impressive. Makes the skull's features stand out scary-well. ;)

I guess that's the thing about DIY AR builds.

To no small extent, an AR's "form" will always follow its "function," but within that restriction the inherent modularity of the design allows for a maximum of creativity and experimentation on the builder's part to achieve a distinctive "look," much more so than any other military-grade weapons-systems I can think of.

Or, ... you could always stick with plain-jane.

Sharps Bros make excellent lowers that make your AR unique. I recently made a similar AR with their Hellbreaker lower with same Diamondhead handguard.
You're build looks great so far, love your paint job on it!

I put everything together and it feels pretty good.
When I went to put the buttpad on the buttstock, I couldn't find the screws. I called Egro to order the screws I miss placed. I do have to say they have outstanding customer service. When I told them that I needed the butpad screw set, I was asked if the small bag was missing the stock. I told the guy that I had lost them and needed to order a set. I was told not to worry and in two days I had a new free set in the mail. :D
I think I will change out a few small parts to get the rifle looking the way I want.
It rained a good bit and as soon as it dries up I will get some better pics.

I picked up a LANTEC Advance Muzzle Brake and will put it on as soon as I get some peel washers to line it up.

Gunny,
I like how it turned out painted.
I am pretty sure I did some engraving for you. Did you ever finish the first one I did for you?
Later,
Mike C.

I mean, yeah, it looks... different.

I'm not much of one who wants to project art onto firearms. I prefer to observe and appreciate the beauty of the firearm's original form. There is art hidden even in that, methinks.

But what do I know? LOL! :D

Mike C.
Haven't had any engraving done on an a
AR yet.
I've already got most of the parts for my next build. It's not going to be fancy, but it won't be a run of the mill AR. It will be a work rifle.

meh, looks like any other AR-15 out there, just iwth that one skull feature being different.. should have added more to it.. like a handguard with a lot of vertical lines could be made to look like a ribcage or spinal column if painted up to look like it, maybe a scope that looks like one of those telescoping monoculars, or even find someone good at making knives to make you a bayonet that looks like a cutlass

I gave the handguard a lot of thought. I wanted it to look good but still be functional. I found one that was cut to look like skeleton four arms and hands , they were heavy. If I find something better, things can always be changed.
It looks like the weather is clearing up so, I should be able to take some pics outside when I get home today.
The rifle has a great feel to it .

I just couldn't help it. When I saw THE JACK lower by Sharp Bro. I wanted one for a build.

I did some looking around and had a buddy at a local shop order me one for me.
The lower showed up Friday and looks great.

While such things do not normally interest me, I just have to smile everytime I look at pics of this Lower or the finished rifle. :D

Enjoy, Gunny, good job! :)

its too bad you cant find a tubular scope of any sort without knobs, if you could you could easily dress it up to look like an old brass telescoping monocular one would have used on ships of the period

I just got in a M16 M4 Davidson Defence Complete Melonite Nitride bolt carrier group BCG coming in from Delta Team Tactical for $90. They have them on sale right now. Regular price is $221.

That's quite a name.

What are the specs?

Here is the description listed on the bolt.

Complete Nitride Bolt Carrier with 5.56 Mpi Tested Phosphate Enhanced Bolt Head Complete with .223 firing pin, Mil Spec Cam Pin, Cotter Pin for A Complete BCG Combo That Will Rock Any 5.56, .223, 300 Blackout, 25-45 Sharps Ar-15 Platform Gun.

The Bolt Head is a .223/5.56 9310 steel with Nitride Melonite finish on the bolt head only and MPI Certified.

Included are the Mil-Grade Gas Key, Cam Pin, Firing Pin and Firing Pin Retaining Pin.

The Carrier is Nitride Super Smooth Finish /Bolt Head is 9310 Nitride Melonite Coated

All our Davidson Defense bcgs are all made By SMI Technology they make the bcg for colt and many other companies all are mp tested for safety we could sell cheaper or lesser bcg but that is one part you do not want to risk.

These Bcg are the same bcg that are going into the guns that our troops are using but with one enhancement the nitride finish for a longer lasting bolt group even when the finish wares the nitride goes deep to give an exterior hardness of 85-90 Rockwell that is hard most barrels are 45 Rockwell bolt extensions are at 50-55 Rockwell so the bolt group is harder than all other components

I have also used BCGs from Crosshill Technologies

Ah, 9310. There's the cost savings.

Boy, they really poured on the marketing lol

I took the rifle to work the other day to function test it and to look at some test fire bullets under the microscope. The berrel is a Stainless Steel 1:8 Polygonal Rifled Barrel 5.56 Chamber by Black Hole Weaponry with three lands and groves. I wanted to see what the bullets looked like compared to ones from a standard barrel. It's nice to work in the firearms section at a lab.:D
You talk about some pretty bullets. Very little markings on the bullet in the lands and groves.
After firing a few rounds into the tank and the trap my co-workers were wondering if the handguard would get hot during heavy firing. Two of them were teaching a firearms class this weekend so, I told them to take it with them amd play with it.
I called my co-worker today and asked how the rifle did. He sait that it worked great and that they had put over 150 rounds through it. He also said that he fired three 30 round mags through the rifle as fast as he could and the handguard only got a little warm near the gas block.
He said it was loud and when watching someone shoot it, you could see flame coming from the sides and top of the muzzle break.

Here are a few pics I took of the firle.
