My local Cabelas (Kansas City) is well-stocked with primers and reloading supplies in general, particularly powder.

I said the above defending Cabelas one week ago on the first page in this ongoing thread: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/cabelas-has-become-a-joke.838932/

Talk about jinx’s; I was in the KC Cabelas today and there were NO 1K boxes of primers of any kind...just a few single 100s of Winchester large and a box or two of primers for 50 cal.

What don’t I know? Is there a national run on primers? They were also out of CFE223, although lots of other powder was there.

I would certainly find interest in anyone reporting on the current stocks in their stores seeing as I was the one that originally brought this up. Cabela's has always been a more rounded outlet such as Gander Mountain was. I would like to see them remain that way. Ganders original store in Wilmot Wisconsin wasn't that big but they did stock a very good selection of fishing and hunting equipment and supplies. Then they tried to compete with Cabela's catalog sales and they expanded into other arenas, fail. Bass Pro Shops started as an offshoot of the Pro Bass Fishing Tourney, and that is who they catered to. As the Tournament Fishing grew so did Bass Pro Shops.

Tulsa/Broken Arrow has enough Mom and Pop reloading stores that I don't use the bigger stores.
Inventory has been increasing if anything.

I cannot vouch for areas outside my limited living area but in my area, local guns stores, including Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain before its demise are dismal in respect to reloading equipment and supplies. (Closest Cabela's is more than an hour away in north Geargia but we did stop at Cabella's in Mitchell, SD on our way to our prairie dog hunt a few weeks ago--what a waste of time except we needed to get our hunting permits and have lunch in the area).

I don't even bother seeing what is available in the local stores for powder and primers. They just do not have anything I need. It is not worth making the effort go look.

While the hazmat charge is a consideration, with judicial shopping, the cost of mail ordering primers is more than competitive with buying from local suppliers. The only own side, one needs to buy in 5000 count quantities (case quantities). If that is too many primers at one time, find a buddy to share the order with.

Powder can be a bit different if you are looking to try out some powders that you normally do not use. In my area, there are a couple of vendors that routinely attend the local gun shows that have a good supply of powders. I buy one pound quantities from them. Once I decide I like a powder, then I buy larger quantities on line.

In situations where I still need only one pound quantities, I buy them from these gun show vendors.

Besides, it gives me an excuse to attend the gun show and spend a morning seeing what folks are hawking.

I’m an hour away from two. One an hour north and one an hour south.
I’ve checked the web and usually they’re both out of stock on primers and the powders I want.the powders are also so expensive that it’s not worth the drive. In fact doing the math, I can order one eight pound jug via Powder Valley Pat shipping and hazmat and it’s still cheaper than Cabalas. And that’s before I figure in gas.

I buy my powder and primers at the local gun show. Prices are better than most found online if you have to pay a hazmat fee. Lately I’ve found every powder I can imagine. The Cabalas I’ve visited never had a very good supply of powders.

Sportsman’s Warehouse is the best big retailer I’ve found for reloading, at least in my area.

I use a local gun store for primers. When there’s a good deal online, sometimes I’ll order a 5k batch.

Hi...
The local Cabela's in Hamburg,Pa generally has good supplies of reloading components.
Prices are high... I shop at several LGS that have lower prices and excellent service and quantities on hand.

Never buy powder or primers on line...the Hazmat charges make it much too expensive compared to buying local, YMMV.
