This Map Shows How All 50 States Rank on Gun Ownership – If They Were Nations Around

Total guns owned (no per capita adjustments) is meaningless and stupid. Also I suspect this is more than privately owned guns.

There were people with guns in MA. before there were any people in AZ..

That is both hilariously wrong and irrelevant.

People in MA with guns before people in AZ? Think again. Before there was ever a gun in the western hemisphere people lived in AZ. Before there was ever a gun in what would be MA the Spanish brought guns to what would be AZ.
None of which, like your comment has any relevance to the thread topic. In the 1990s I lived in MA for three years. I bought guns in MA and they all came to AZ. Not that proves there are more guns in AZ than MA. My point is that it is impossible for this Map to be accurate and very possible it is wildly inaccurate.

Wonder how many actual gun owners there are in those countries, after subtracting the military and police.

Santa Fe,NM, "founded" 1606 by the Spanish. Plymouth Rock 1620 with the Mayflower.
The Spanish were wandering Arizona as early as 1540 with Coronado and company and perhaps even before.

A good history lesson, Nom. Thank you.

How do they know how many guns are owned in each state???
"They" don't know. Even realistic estimates of guns per capita are very approximate. I know it is not uncommon in Wyoming for people to own dozens upon dozens of firearms just for plinking.

Based on estimates of legal gun ownership, which is an estimated number.

Let's take on just one issue - the sales of illegal guns in NYC. While most new guns might stay in their general locality with sales face to face, stolen guns get transported to metros for sale, and that distorts the picture.

It's been estimated thousands of guns flow into NYC and certainly thousands are confiscated from criminals there. I'd have to agree - it does sound like Pakistan with the numbers of guns being smuggled in with no effective method of preventing it.

It also makes a good pro-gun argument, same as marijuana - if they would legalize them then their would be less crime . . .

Seems to me that the map proves one beautiful point that there is no possible way anyone can even make a wild guess at the ownership and distribution of firearms in the US.

And the good folks here are arguing about a BS map that was picked out of some sleep deprived idiots rambling attempt to try and make a paycheck.:what::neener:

Goes along with the MSM attempt to qualify why .22 ammo has evaporated everywhere as of late.:banghead:

Fixed it.

Fixed it.

You fixed nothing. The Spanish explorers and settlers in AZ were "white people". :banghead:

From Wikipedia: "Before the modern era, Arizona was home to numerous Native American Tribes. Hohokam, Mogollon and Anazasi(Navajo term) cultures were among the many that flourished throughout the entire state before the arrival of Marcos de Niza, a Spanish Franciscan, in 1539. He explored parts of the state and made contact with native inhabitants, probably the Sobaipuri. The expedition of Spanish explorer Coronado entered the area in 1540–1542 during its search for Cíbola. Father Kino was the next European in the region. A member of the Society of Jesus, he led the development of a chain of missions and converted many of the Indians to Christianity in the Pimería Alta (now southern Arizona and northern Sonora) in the 1690s and early 18th century."

Number of guns is meaningless, especially when it comes to states that dont require registration (thus dont *know* actual gun ownership numbers).

Gun owners per 1,000 people would be the only thing meaningfull, but that number simply isn't known in most states.

Look at the comparison of Germany and Texas; Texas has 50M fewer people. 80M vs. 30M. The difference is bigger than the population of Texas.

Absolute garbage. If you're going to make a comparison of states to nations, then the populations should be (at the very least) similar.

I kinda thought New Jersey would be comparable to North Korea.

But seriously, Philippines and Kentucky?

https://anc.yahoo.com/news/how-many-licensed-guns-can-an-individual-own--005719585.html

"Ernesto Tabujara III of the Pro-Gun Philippines said, as of January 2013, there are about 1.5 million licensed gun owners in the Philippines."

Gun owners in Kentucky

It says here 47% based on this survey (actually 47.7%) and I think this number is low.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/health/interactives/guns/ownership.html

Population 4,206,074 of KY http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Kentucky

I'm no math teacher, but 47% of 4,206,074 ain't no 1,500,000

Edit: I Googled "47.7 % of 4,206,074" and got 2,006,297

Again I think the KY number is low. I think dang near everyone here has at least a shotgun in the root cellar er I mean closet.
