Seriously - here's the ad copy from Spycatcher:

The armour protects against 9mm Full Metal Jacket Round Nose (FMJRN) projectiles, with a weight of 8gm (124gr) at 430 m/s. Full Metal Jacket Round Nose (FMJRN) type DM11A1B2 (DN or MEN) projectiles with a weight of 8gm (124gr) at 415m/s. 44 Magnum jacketed Soft Point (JSP) type Norma 11103/61103 projectiles with a weight of 15.6gm (158gr) at 390 m/s. 44 Magnum Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) projectiles with a weight of 15.6gm (240gr) at 430 m/s. Eastern European Tokarev LC 7.62 x 25mm steel core projectile with a weight of 5.5gm at 455 m/s.

Of course, at about $2,000 I suppose it should do more than protect you from the wind and rain.

linky no workie

but if this if from the company in south america, their stuff works. As part of the job, the workers have to put on the stuf they make and the company president shoots them...:what: I am not making this up. Do a google search.

Actually, I think the link is just being overwhelmed with traffic right now, since I saw it on BoingBoing, which gets a lot of hits. There's an image of the jacket there on BoinBoing.

And yeah, I've heard of that company in South America. President randomly shoots his people wearing their stuff pretty much every day. :what:

those guys must have one pissed off boss:evil:

and so that's the answer to crime? wear body armor? must suck on a hot sunny day:uhoh:

This jacket offers a protection level to NIJ STD 0101.04 level 11A

Something not matching here. Assuming the ad means to say Level IIA (roman numeral 2 A) and not 11A (not eleven A) that is only good up to standard 9 mm parabellum and .40 caliber S&W rounds. If you want protection from the “44 Magnum Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) projectiles with a weight of 15.6gm (240gr) at 430 m/s.” listed in the ad you need Level IIIA. See page 2 of:

http://www.nlectc.org/pdffiles/0101.04RevA.pdf

Maybe it is just a typo on the web site, or maybe they are purposely trying to misled that the jacket provides more protection than it does.

Yeah they are trying to mislead that it protects more than it does. Notice that it specifies .44 Magnum JHP rounds only, but does not specify JHP for the other rounds listed. Meaning that it is not rated for 44 mag, but can withstand the lesser penetrating JHP rounds. So yeah they could not technicaly have it rated and certified to withstand 44 magnum unless it stops all types of 44 mag, not just JHP. So no it is not rated to stop .44 Mag rounds.

Therefore including 44 magnum in the description at all is misleading.

Indeed.

Sorry - wasn't my intention to mislead, I was just going off the copy's claims, thought it was an interesting item to share.

Debunking it is fine by me! Not like I was going to drop $2K and order one...there's so many nice guns I'd rather use the money on, and be pro-active. :p

The South American company really does shoot their employees, its part of their PR campaign. In a TV report last year the President himeself Migueal Caballero had a tv reporter shoot him. If you search hard enough you can find the video. As for how the stuff works they sent me a sample because I did a College debate speach on it, but I have not yet shot it.

However this looks like its a different company.
