Thompson Center .58 Big Boar info

The T/C Big Boar .58 is a great gun and highly sought after. Unfortunately it's impossible to ascertain or even guess at it's age; production records were lost in a fire and there is no database of what serial numbers were made when. As for value, it depends greatly, in fact almost entirely, on condition. Assuming good, used condition (95% is the term I'd use), the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms (Fifth Edition 2007) lists a value of $160. A 100% condition example would bring nearly twice that, about $300.
The Blue Book is only a guide. Actual prices can and do vary considerably in either direction. I believe actual Big Boar prices tend to be higher than the Blue Book valuation by as much as $60-$75.

I couldn't get anyone to part with their Big Boar so i got an Enfield Musketoon. Got an elk with it the next year. Also got a "Buffalo Hunter" .58 (chopped Zouave) and it shoots nice round ball groups. I'd still get a BB if one was presented but now i have 4 different .58s and like them all for different reasons. (also a Zouave & St. Louis Hawken).

I'm mostly into 54 cal, Thompson Center rifles (and Italian 44 cap-n-ball revolvers).
I did get a Cabelas (Interarms marked) Hawken in 58 when they had a closeout sale on them about 10 years ago. I have not shot it much yet. It's 15/16ths across the flats. I'm thinking that's kinda thin for 58. I keep the charges down to 100 gr or less. The quality is good, but not as good as T/C.
Go with the Big Bore T/C. I've been looking for one too.
I recently put together a T/C New Englander combination with 12 ga and 54 cal barrels. I'd like that in 10 ga and 58 cal
