Thompson Center Arms SOLD

I would like to say Ruger only because of there success with Marlin if that would happen think of the market they would have by including Thompson Center in there lineup. It would set them apart from all others as Americas Premier Gun Company they would be a power house in the industry.

I prefer the original Contender, even if limited to lower pressure cartridges.
It just looks better to me.
Didn't care for the look or feel of the G2.
Couldn't stand the TCR.
Be interesting to see what old and new stuff they make.
G1 frame has a better trigger, but people couldn't stop shooting themselves with it. The amount of force needed to open it vs a G2 is a bit annoying.

Have seen folks struggle w Contenders. There may be a knack to it, I dunno. Find them easy, always have.

Used to have strong hands, fingers, and may have developed some technique. Have RA these days and its annoying, but working a Contender is still no problem.

Recoil of the 35 rem though does take its toll, way sooner than before.

The only bolt action rifles I hunt with for deer are all TC ventures. Awesome news hopefully they will revert back to the venture line I like that better than the compass.

While folks may have their faves, its a business brought back from the dead.
Id expect them to do their prev best seller/unique to company model first.
Read : Encore

But we will just have to wait and see.

New product idea? Maybe in a single shot/switch barrel ......but I never cared for the TCR.
Think a stainless modernization of the Savage 219 would be cool.

Hopefully whatever they bring to market can be done well, and in a timely fashion.

How long did it take for SSK to do their version of the Contender?

BTW, I'm not an Encore fan....rifle, handgun or MZ.
They never felt good to me.
Not a fan of the G2 Contender either.

Don't care for the "kit" concept of one frame and mult bbls.
Rather have a rig set up, and if needing something different, buy an additional rig.
Don't even like switching bbls on a Rem 870 or 1100 LOL

Prefer falling blocks on rifles, vs break open.
Tolerate a break open handgun though (Contender).

Dunno if I'd buy anything the new TC will offer. Im about done buying anything from anybody.
But I wish them well.

Maybe if they come out with something totally new I'd go ahead.
A falling block .22 rf would be cool.

I had a Contender back in the 90's, 22LR, 44 Mag and 223 Rem., 14" barrel. I decided to use the 223 for groundhog hunting. I zeroed it for 100 yards, using Hornady 53 GR. HP. I headed out to my hunting place in Lancaster County, PA. This place has some rolling hills. As I walked to the top of the first hill, there at the bottom was the largest groundhog, I've ever seen with his back to me. I place the Contender on my tripod, crosshairs mid back of the "silver back", squeezed the trigger. Groundhog still standing and looking around. I had time to load another round, another miss. Loaded everything back up and headed back to the shooting range. I found the Contender was sensitive to how much pressure was being placed on the tripod bag. The rounds were all over the place.

Headed home and decided to sell the whole setup. My fishing buddy bought it, he thought it looked neat. Here is a picture of tripod and bag. IMG_2018.JPG

I had a Contender 10 inch in 7TCU. I won the NYS IMHSA Production AAA and AA (different years) championship, Region 1, and State. Region1 was a perfect 60x60. I had many, many 40x40s with that gun. That was an amazingly accurate pistol. I sold it years ago and regret it. I so hope they bring it back.

I would kill for a barrel in 30 carbine!!

You can get one now through MGM if you pony up. I've had them do two Encore barrels for me and they were definitely worth the price, which is less than you might think.

I just ran their "build a barrel" app for a 17" stainless barrel in .30 Carbine and it came to $475.

My first Contender was not an "Easy open". All models since have been.
Used my dad's back when I started IHMSA .22
My Super 16 in .35 rem ran a G2 forend (as a rifle). It looked silly but shot great. Issue there was too light up front. Filled forend hollows w epoxy and 8 shot and it made offhand shooting easy (was not before).
Had an octagon .22 mag bbl. That and the Super 16 were the only two Ive shot that did not wear a Pachmayr forend.
Maybe the Pachmayr due to hanger is less sensitive to forend pressure?
Bags yes, or shot Creedmoor position, never used a tripod.

Prefer my Contenders in handgun form.
.223 Super 14 was a laser.
Only have the .35 rem now. Blued bbl on a stainless frame.
Need a Browning 2 tone HP target to match the euro look ;)

Though it's a great state to do business in, I doubt they'll come back to Rochester, NH, as the labor market here is tight as an "insert adverb here"... especially with SIG, Safran, and Pratt-Whitney hiring everyone that can fog a mirror.

It was a sad day when they left NH. But that ship has long sailed and others have taken their place.
