Well, anyone who has read my posts with any regularity will now that I am a big fan of both Taurus and Ruger. The Taurus 24/7 is a fantastic bargain, provided you are looking for a DA auto. I love my Ruger P90 and my MkII, and from waht I have shot from the other P-Series pistols, they seem great too. Both companies price well within the average guys budget, so thats nice. Now, if budget wasn't an issue, there are a few guns that I would own (although I would still own that P90) and here they are:
.357 - Python. In my opinion, the Python is overall (fit, finish, accuracy, reliability) the finest gun Colt ever produced, even if you consider the 1911. Unfortunatly, the used prices seem to bear this out, as they are through the freaking roof.
.45 - Though I will stick by my Ruger through thick and thin, I have always wanted to build my own 1911. Probably wouldn't be the best gun ever, but it would be the best gun to me, so there.
9mm - Well, I enjoy shooting this caliber, even though I don't have much faith in it as a combat round, but if I had to choose one gun that I have always wanted, I want a Beretta 92f. Mostly, this is because I shot one in the USMC. I actually have a Taurus copy of this gun, and I enjoy shooting it quite a bit, but I would like to have "Beretta" stamped on the side. Again, there are probably better 9mm pistols out there, but for me, this one will do just fine.
.38 Special - Actually, I probably will end up with this gun at some point, as my Dad has it, and I think he will probably end up gifting it to me, but I shot a S&W Military and Police model built way back when, and I have to say, I really liked it. Absolutly fantastic for fun shooting, has a good deal of history behind it, and is just plain cool, in my opinion.
The rest of the guns I would like to own are sort of theoretical, meaning that I would like to own them, but chances are slim that I ever will just because I can't see actually spending the money on them, regardless of my finances at the time. First on that list is a S&W 500, followed by a custom shop Smith .357, followed by a Rohrbaugh, followed by a particularly fine Colt SAA.
By the way, I own a H&R Sportsman 999, and I absolutely love this little revolver, and it is by far and away my favorite .22 revolver I have ever shot. They aren't made anymore, and in some past posts, a few guys have indicated that they are more than a bit scarce, but if you happen to run across one and its in good shape and the price is right, I very highly recommend it.
