Saw a nice, clean Armalite AR-type carbine at the shop. The search function says that they're probably as good as any other. I'm still undecided between it and a RRA. Any thoughts on the Armalite .223'ers? Thanks.
I think the M-15 is as good as the best of any AR-15's. If the unit you are looking at has the features you want, and the price is better than the RRA, then the choice is simple. Armalite.
About the only thing I don't like about Armalite is.......the warranty on their guns are for the original purchaser only. If you buy used, and then have a problem, the repairs (if done at Armalite) is on your dime.
I think you forgot Rock River. RRA is the equal of any of the above. RRA is my personal favorite and I think it has a slight edge over Bushmaster and Colt. Armalite is as good as any and the truth is, all four of these brands are top notch.
It would be hard to go wrong with either brand. I would give more weight to which manufacturer offers the options you want and has the actual product in stock ready to sell.

From what I can tell, RRA makes their barrels out of 4140 steel instead of 4150 (as do Colt and Bushmaster), and unlike the other three, RRA barrels and chambers are generally not chrome lined. This is why I would put RRA in a second tier category, behind the ABC.
Armalite AR15s seem to sell for a slight premium over Bushmaster . . . the rifles seem to be equal in quality, so maybe there's something about the name.
That's for the .223 rifles. I've heard just enough about people encountering problems with Armalite .308s to make me reluctant to buy one of those.
