OK, So I have been chomping at the bit to get my new AR out to break it in. Apparently I was there on AR day cause all the lanes were filled and everyone was shooting AR's. All went pretty well until this older gentleman came in and took the lane to my left with what I can only assume is his granddaughter (maybe early 20's)

Couple notes, this is an indoor range 75 ft in length. The have an electric target retriever. The way it is mounted, about 75 ft back on an I-beam which is about 2 inches below the ceiling(maybe 10 ft off the ground - guessing).

So this guy sets up with the girl he sits her down on a stool maybe 3ft tall, 4ft tops. He pulls the target in to about 20 ft. and gets her shooting at the target. As soon as she starts, I see round after round hit the I-beam towards the ceiling, and even swear I hear a couple ricochets hitting the cinder block wall behind us. A couple shots she shoot high went into the ceiling (I-85 is RIGHT behind this range) so now I am wondering how far they are going. I was having a lot of fun with my AR but after the ricochets (they were VERY obvious and this guy completely ignored them), I packed up and left a little miffed.

Now at the range, we are charged by the half hour, so literally time is money. Also, I am generally in the mindset of, mind your own business. I left them to their own and got myself out of range of the ricochets.

Am I crazy in seeing a problem with how this guy was shooting. I know where every one of my shots is going to hit the backstop, when I focus on the target I start by focusing on the background then zoom into the target. It was very obvious this guys shots were missing the backstop and hitting the beam (nice orange colored sparks on each shot). Is this just something common in indoor rifle ranges, or is this something way out of line? Would you recommend trying to chat with the guy, or playing narc and going to the RSO (we have one but ironically the rifle range is out of sight for him, while the he focuses on the pistol range) and letting him confront them.

Report unsafe conditions/actions to the RO. What's the big deal? you paid your hard earned cash to shoot at this range so you're entitled to a certain measure of safety.
