Do we have any Battlefield 1942 players in these parts?

For those not in the know - BF1942 is an exceptionally good first-person-shooter video game. Beyond the standard FPS small arms (including the Springfield '04, the 1911, and the BAR), you get to play with :

- Sherman, Panzer, Tiger tanks and the M10 tank destroyer.
- B17 bombers
- Mustangs, BF109s, Mosquito light bombers
- Mobile artillery such as the Allied Priest and the German Wespe.
- AA guns
- Allied Jeeps, German Kugelcars
- Allied and Japanese -battleships-, including the massive 16 inch guns.
- Allied and Japanese destroyers
- Allied and Japanese submarines.
- coastal defense guns
- Half tracks, and the deuce-and-a-half

The game involves MASSIVE multiplayer battles recreating some of the biggest battles of WWII - including Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market Garden, Operation Battleaxe, Iwo Jima, Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and many others.

It's truly a fantastic game (I say that as an enthusiast) - I figured there'd have to be -someone- around here who plays.

I played it quite a bit about a year ago. I have not had much time for games since I started building my house. It is a very fun game. I especially liked getting in the airplanes and jumping out behind enemy lines. :D

I played the heck out of it, have the road to rome expansion.

Went to a LAN party in March, sooooo much better playing with people you know. Especially when they're in the same room.

Haven't played it since, just not the same without that instant communication to coordinate a strike, or yell out how you just completely 0wnZed someone!

Been playing a lot of Raven Shield since then...and the completely unrelated NeverWinter Nights expansion came out last week so I've been messing with that...

Good game had a lot of fun. Did the clan thing for a while but had to quit when my work schedule changed.

Do you have a link to a site with more info?
From your description it sounds like Everquest meets WWII.
Nah, it's not massively multi-player. IIRC 64 per server is the limit. There's also no monthly dues to play, like (for)Everquest and WW2 Online. A new expansion for BF1942 is due out before long (Secret Weapons of WW2). Battlefield Vietnam is probably going to be out around Christmas or so.

BF1942 is good if you can get on a server without TKing wankers. I don't know how many times a teammate has fragged me while I was headed for a plane or something he wanted. The physics are rather similar to that of comic books.

Yes, I've been playing since the release and have enjoyed it. I got it to play with some old college friends since we all live in different cities now; but I enjoy a quick game on the public servers.

As bad as the idiots are on public servers, I've found the recent patch helps encourage better teamplay and less idiocy. I enjoy doing the scout/arty thing.

I play '42 a few times a week with friends online. Pretty fun game that takes strategy and teamwork to dominate. Much better than a "shoot everything in sight" FPS.

Great Idea

Ive been playing Desert Combat alot. Ive also just now started playing the Eve of Destruction mod too, a vietnam mod. Its great fun, more team based than desert combat i think. I think it would be a great idea to make a Desert Combat clan.

Aloha

Btw Im still having a heck of a time learning how to fly those choppers good.

In the filter name type desert and in the players to show only desert combat servers and enter 0 to filter out empty servers, click apply.

I just recieved the latest PC Gamer, and there will soon be a Battlefield: Vietnam

US team gets 4(!!) different helicopters (Cobra, slick Huey, B model Huey gunship, Chinook). Americans get F-4s that drop napalm, and the NVA get MiG 21s. Both sides have tanks, but the game isn't tank centric. Supposedly, the game will attempt to model the Airmobile concept, with the Chinook able to sling load tanks. Some maps will be setup so that the Americans have to helo assault into an LZ and continue the mission.

The editor says it was even more addictive than BF:1942, and the version he was playing wasn't feature complete.

I have heard a lot of good things about Battlefield 1942. I just haven't found time to play it. I just can't seem to stop playing Soldier of Fortune II online TDM!:D
If you guys do start a THR server for 1942, let me know and I'll go get the game.

Completely addicted, though I only play Desert Combat mod these days, and only when I can find time.

See, there are these things called "work" and "real life" that have been distracting me of late.

BF 1942 Junkie here!
DC is awesome also. My game pc hard drive smoked Monday so I'm going thru withdrawls, hope to be up soon.
A THR team would be a blast (pun??)
-out

OK, last night I spent an hour playing Desert Combat 0.38 - my vote for the killer mod of the year.

This is the new Counter-Strike as far as I'm concerned - and that's saying a lot.
