We've had a lot of threads about imaginary creatures here at THR--zombies, pumas, bears, and, of course, mutant zombie bears that know kung fu. However, the latest edition of the Weekly World News, a publication slightly more credible than the New York Times, reports that Earf is to be invaded by "300 small to medium size caft traveling alongside a dozen or more gigantic motherships" on Christmas Day (time to really run up the score on the VISA)! Lance Thorens, Weekly World News, December 23, 2003, p. 10.

What do you do? WHAT DO you do?:uhoh:

I'm thinking M14 clone and 1911. Maybe a 9mm smg and Glock 17? Or maybe my FNC or an AR so I can use NG mags? BAR in .338 with those Grand Slam bullets?

Since a lot of people think these matters (bears, pumas, zombies) through more than me, what will you be using to repel the coming invasion?

Hmmm ..... I don't think our projectiles will cut it El T ...... they will have ''shields'' ..... and the puny bullets will be no match for that.

I think it'll be LARGE particle beam stuff ..... :p

Or maybe ...... the common cold??????:D

Well....

Them Thar Alley-ins is mighty skinny-like. I'd like as not start with a gubment 1911 & that .45 IQ ammo. The first of-em would be 'bout thick-buf to start the bits-o-bullet to part'n ways with each other. The three bits com'n out eat-ee's back can frag three more of'em. Jus cuz I got no mo teef don't mean I don't like effishency. :D

Ah, I see. If you can't stop the madness, then you might as well contribute to it.

I guess I'd carry either a BHP or a 1911, depending on whether the physiology of the aliens contributed to needing greater penetration or not. I'd really favor the BHP since it's my favorite sidearm and it's more cinematic to spray a lot of bullets at the aliens in a panic after you find out that handguns don't work against them. It's far more difficult to spray with the 1911.

I'd just have to use an AR for the rifle/carbine choice. I'm just more familiar with the platform plus I could use ammo and mags taken from the overwhelmed National Guardsmen who were either slain by the aliens or who were fleeing from them.

I must admit that a nice old 870 would make a good choice for this scenario due to the wide variety of ammo types that you could use reliably. You never know when flechettes, flares, fire, or a couple of little balls attached by a chain might come in handy during an alien invasion. It's also useful for the climax of the invasion when you rack something into the chamber, surprising the aliens and heartening your allies.

:scrutiny: :D

No guns,

From what I recall reading in Frank Herberts "Dune" series, the way to get around the alien shields will be with edged weapons; knives, swords, and bayonettes.

Maybe a bow for distance work.

And from the plot of the Mel Gibson movie "Signs" a glass of water splashed forcefully on the Alien is also a good one shot (glass) stopper. :D

I'm planning on using my .577-450 Martini-Henry and my .32 Hand Ejector Third Model.

I'll get smoked, but I'll go down with style! :)

My Windrunner model 96 with Raufoss rounds!

Their "shields" will only work against energy weapons like lazers, phazers and such and only if it's modulated to the correct phase variance.

Besides, if their shields can stop a solid projectile, the energy displaced by the .50 should knock them back a few hundred yards at a time.

And then I'll bomb their spaceships with my bowling ball cannon!

I note with sorrow that none of you have recognized, much less celebrated, the diversity among the space alien community. While the common "grays" (think puny with big eyes) could be easily harvested with a .38 revolver, the more fearsome "reptilians" seem to be ideal candidates for checking out that new .45-70 load you've been working on.

We saw these guys already in Independance Day. As you remember, they could be killed with any firearm, and their ships brought down by our finest hackers. I'll stick to my CCWs with maybe a few extra mags.:D

M41a Pulse Rifle.

Possibly with a flame-unit gaffa-taped to the side :)

Nuke'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Oh, and speaking of aliens and gun fests, anybody besides me looking forward to this?
