I have been hunting for a SIG P225 for a while, and only recently became aware of two types that are available online:

The European P6 Police Trade-in, which seems to go for about $270 online and the "certified pre-owned" SIG P225, reconditioned by SIG armorers, which seems to fetch about $550.

Which is a better value? On the one hand, the P6 is very inexpensive. But it has that odd European skeleton hammer that supposedly breaks on being dropped and allegedly gritty, long, hard double action trigger. More worrisome, I understand some P6's do not handle JHP ammo well.

I am not pinching pennies here, so should I just go ahead and buy the SIG P225 CPO?

BTW, I could not find a source online for a brand NIB P225. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Check www.gunbroker.com www.gunsamerica.com www.auctionarms.com and lastley www.ableammo.com should be able to find something on one or the other of the sights, however Able Ammo. will be your highest price. As far as a 225 CPO or a P6 I've heard lots of reports that the P6's aren't bad if you don't mind a little outer wear. they are just as mechanically reliable as the 225 CPO'. Just depends on how much money you have to spend and what your preferences are.

The only real issues with a P6 are the heavy mainspring and subsequent heavy DA trigger pull, and some of the older ones "may" have issues with HPs due to the feedramp, which was redesigned sometime during the production. For some reason the German police wanted and specified that the pistols be setup for FMJ.

Both can be remedied pretty easily, anew mainspring from Wolf's is around $8 and there's a guy on the sig forum recutting and polishing feedramps for $45.

Well, I took the plunge and just ordered a P225 CPO from Top Gun Supply along with a SIG 556 Commando Carbine.

P6 seemed like a good deal, but I was a bit burnt by an Israeli trade-in Browning High Power years back, so I was a bit wary of another trade-in type gun, into which I'd have to put in some work and time.
