Thunder Ranch is to be sold by auction - see here for details. Also, a number of memorabilia (e.g. range signs, etc.) are to be sold separately - see here for examples.

I'm sad to see this happen, having many happy memories of Thunder Ranch. Pity we can't take up a collection of (say) $20 from each of our 10,000-odd members and turn it into The High Road School Of Defensive Shooting! :D

You know, it wouldn't take very many California escapees to purchase that place. When you like at the price of real estate in CA vs South TExas.

Maybe Skunky could start a commune. :D

Preacherman,

They're not going out of business, just relocating to southern Oregon.

You'll have to come visit me while you're out this way. :)

Yeah, El T... RIIIGHT! :D

Your penance for that whopper will be to sponsor me (all expenses paid) on the first Urban Rifle course at the new Thunder Ranch, OK?

According to my strategically placed sources, the ground that TR sits on is leased. Cliff and Heidi will own the ground in Oregon. They feel this is the right time for them to move on. Her family is from up that way to begin with.

Texas TR is only a 14 hour drive for yours truly. The Oregon site will be closer to 24. Who knows what the future will bring, eh? :)

He told me that he wants to run a smaller operation as at the big place, you end up doing to much paper work. Also, they have family there.

Oregon is quite pretty. I know TX and OR - both are good gun and outdoor places to live.

Badger/Austin

Did you see on CMT a new Coyote Ugly opened there? :what: I'd have to start drinking again!:banghead: :D

Threadkiller, your sources must hang out in the same circles that mine do. I heard exactly the same thing.

Lease was about to expire, and the new owner wasn't expected to renew.

According to Heidi, she used to live 2 houses off of the north fence at my current "home port", NAS Whidbey Island.

The house no longer has a pool behind it, Heidi, if you ever read this.

I owe Clint big time, for an act of kindness towards myself that I woldn't have blamed him had he said no. I wanted to get back this year, and properly thank him in person, but as I see that the classes are filled up this year, for the most part, sadly, it looks like I will have to pass on a Texas class. I will try for an Oregon class next year.

I waited too long, damn the luck.

Carlos,

I've forgotten the name of the town, but it's clear down in the southeast corner of the state, not too far from the Cali and Nevada borders. Probably he'll have folks flying into Reno and driving from there? Looked like the exact geographical center of nowhere...

Ahem... WHAT?!? I'd give $40 to start.:what: And I don't even live in Texas [yet]!

info on TR-O

here is the previous thread which dealt with
several of the questions: where, why, why smaller classes.

as for the current arrangement/lease/sale of goods:

Clint leases the land on which TR-T is located from a gentleman in Texas;
there is no animus between Clint and the landowner, period.
There is no "loss of lease" or other such nonsense.
Clint and Heidi are moving 'home' to a ranch they own
on which they will have Thunder Ranch continue
as Thunder Ranch Oregon.

The physical plant of TR-Texas is owned by Clint in total. If I
understand correctly, he owns the buildings as well as the
all the 'stuff.' (He does not their house
or 'the little house' but all the rest of them.) It has been
common knowledge that Clint was liquidating the physical
plant all along. That he didn't advertise the date until now
makes sense. The last time i was there in the fall he had
already made arrangements to sell the roof of the terminator.

He is building all new in Oregon. The existing equipment, targeting
furniture and fixtures are all being liquidated in Texas. Any questions?
I would be happy to call him and ensure good information is repeated
here at THR.

:D
