Tikka Accuracy

I recently purchased a Tikka 223 Varmint 1x8 twist barrel - been working on some load development. Seems pretty accurate for a box stock rifle.
Like 55-82gr bullets running them above 2800 fps

Mine is a wood stocked 6.5x55 Swedish. I shoot a custom load. I used Leopold mount, rings, and scope. My cold bore shot is 1.5" left of the POA at 100 yards, the second shot is dead in the center. I need to decide which way I'm going to adjust it, but since it's a hunting rifle, I think I'll adjust for the cold bore.

If you decide to buy a tikka t3 make sure you replace the recoil lug becouse its in aluminium. I think its like a joke... but put a custom steel lug in there becouse you original aluminium lug will be misshaped after awhile.

My T3 hunter (wood stock) stainless in .308 shot sub-moa out of the box with federal 130gr factory loads. Developing loads using accubonds and partitions that equal or better the factory offerings. Maximum COAL used, great results so far. There are metal replacements for the plastic bits that fail easily available. I replaced mine before they failed.

If I were the OP, I'd absolutely ignore one negative anecdote in a thread like this.

Hentown, I emphatically agree!

I gave my 243 Tikka to my son and I need something to compete with. Nothing else I have makes ragged one hole groups.

After all the looking and wanting, and I did want a 260, I came back around to Tikka again, vice WBY or Savage. And worse, I came back to 243 for 300-600 yard plinking at clays - one of our favorite past times. I say worse because my son and I did not want two identical rifles in the safe. I'll get mine in wood and out-scope him! So there!

Thank you to everyone who chipped in here with their experience.

Why not post my own sample, right? Well, it's a ragged hole. I'm too lazy to upload and link.

Took my T3 223 Varmint to a club bench rest match for fun.
Came in second (factory) behind a Sig 308, 300 yard winds got me.

I've only owned one T3. It was OK; but I like the older Tikkas better. My M695 in .280

300 Win Mag

I have a Tikka T3 in 300 Win Mag and I love it. I bought it for the low price, and yes Tikka cuts some corners to make the T3s affordable, but they perform very well. The trigger and smooth action is what sold me. I have 800$ into the gun, scope and limbsaver pad and I'm driving under half inch groups at 100yds and hitting woodchucks at 500+yards with my handloads. I have quite a few hunting videos with this gun, please check them out:

Tikka T3 .270 SS

4 shots at 100 yards using handloads.

You can poo-poo the cheap synthetic stock and other parts of the gun but I've run hundreds of rounds through mine without a hiccup and it shoots better than rifles costing three times as much.

That's my experience with em, nawh I will pass on them from now on.
Same here. I had a Sako A7 and a Tikka T3 in 22-250. At first, I thought every thing was OK. Then I started shooting p-dogs in the warmer months and the rifle turned into a scattergun. That's wnat I get for buying a rifle with that goofy recoil lug and a plastic stock that isn't free floated all the way. I spoke with one of the gunsmiths at the repair center and he told me my experience isn't that uncommon.

Bedding and a bit of sanding could have helped... Beretta, unless they are sold out, sells/sold wooden stocks for the T3s

I know the stock and bedding system isn't the greatest on the T3s. But you can always get an aftermarket Bell & Carlson or Mountain Tactical for 300-350$. Both of those brands are fully bedded and free floated. I get good performance out of the factory synthetic stock but I think a better stock would be worth the money. The T3 as is, is still an exceptional gun for the price.

If your random-sampled Tikka is shooting in the 2s, then I'd say it'd be safe to buy another. Unless you're going to be one of those fat old guys sitting around doing benchrest all day, :) then you probably wouldn't benefit from a custom, expensive rifle.
Fat old guys lol. I see that also. Tikkas are great rifles but the savage line is cheaper and it is very hard to find a new one that is bad

300 Win Mag on chucks? You must own powder factory lol

A good stock man can do magic.... My Tikka 695. There are 4 steel pins in the bedding, 2 in front of each action screw. There is not much more to work with on these than the T3s with the "recoil" lug they have.

Pros and Cons of the Tikka T3

Here's an article obtained from the kineticresearchgroup.com website talking about the Pros and Cons of the Tikka T3. The aluminum recoil lug is discussed.

.270 Tikka

Most accurate gun I own.
Synthetic stock.
2.5 lb trigger with a Nikon Buckmaster scope. Nothing fancy.
Handloads are as follows.
130 grain Barnes TSX over 57 grains of H 4831. Shoots 1/2inch at 100. I love this rifle!!!!

T3 7mm-08. First 3 shot group with this rifle (Nosler 120gr NBT's @ 100yds). I made adjustments to center it 2" high at 100yds and repeated a 3 shot group. I own several in 6.5x55, 25-06 and 223. All very accurate.

I have the T3 Stainless in .243 and it's minute of 5 gallon bucket at 100 yds. because you can't reliably keep it on a paper plate. I've been through several scopes, mounts and loads. Nothing seems to work. Customer service wants 70 bucks to take a look at it but I've already got too much in it. I just keep tinker'in but haven't dumped it yet. I posted before on the same gun but mostly just caught flak. I would never buy another.

@6.5swede Nice groups. That wood stock is awesome looking too. Is that a deluxe? Or just a Hunter?

It's just a Hunter.....but some of the nicest timber that I've seen on a T3. I didn't really need a 7mm-08 but couldn't resist when I saw it. Obviously, very happy with the accuracy as well. Sometimes, the stars align just right.

@Dinosaur1. That really sucks that yours isn't working out. I don't know what to tell you other than take the action screws out and re-tighten them. I don't tighten mine down too much, just til I get some resistance. Also how many shots through it? It might be heavy fouled with copper. I like Birchwood and Casey Foaming Bore Scrubber gel. I used that on my 243 and was amazed how fouled it was even though I clean it often.
