Tikka Optics Question

Recently purchased a Tikka T3 Lite, 300 WSM. A Mil-Dot reticule is a must. My end game is to put together the best range rifle for the price.

For competition, I've used my Remington 700. Great rifle, but the new parts and accessories have run $2400.

I would like to get a decent optics set which won't break the bank. Currently, I've borrowed a Zeiss, mounted a Leupold, and was pleased with an overpriced Nikon.

I know the high-end optics, but have limited experience with some of the less expensive. Any insight into something I may have missed would be appreciated.

Does anyone have any thoughts on some of the Bushnell, Vortex, or other less expensive sets?

My current thought is a Bushnell 3200.

My Tikkas wear Nikon Buckmasters with BDC. Never used a mil-dot scope. I do know some of the nikons are mil-dot.

What power are you wanting?

Midway has a 6-18x40 Nikon Buckmaster Mil-dot on sale right now for a little over 3 bills.....

I have the 6x18 Buckmaster on a heavy varmint AR. It is a good scope, but is very heavy and long, and probably not what you want on a lite rifle. The smaller Buckmasters may be the ticket. I have had good luck with Sightron SII's lately also.

I always thought that the Buckmaster worked good on the T3 because it added a little more weight to the gun. For some calibers, that would be a plus.

I didn't know if the less expensive Nikons were worth taking a look at or not; I like the ones I've used.

The event is 1,000 for 1,000, so unless I want to put 1,200 into it and sign a writ stating I will sell it for $1,000 without question. I'll wind up like some of the guys who win $1,000 but have to sell their $3,000 rifles for 1K.

The less expensive Nikons are worth a look. The Buckmasters aren't Monarchs (which I like) but they are good. I have even heard that the Pro Staffs aren't bad for the money, but I have no previous experience with them.

Vortex is good and thier warranty is only rivaled by Leupold. I have had 5 co-workers go all vortex on thier guns so about 12 guns all togeather and had one that wouldnt hold zero. Called to return it and they never even asked what was wrong just sent a new scope with a pre-paid shipping box and label.

I had a Bushnell 3200 and it was good but a little blurry around the edges.

Sightron Big Sky II is worth the dough

Not a fan of Nikon's cheaper scopes but mainly because returning a bad one was met with a bit of problems.

I have a Nikon 3-9x40 Team Primos that is good for the money.

The Nikon 6469 worked out reasonably well. If it holds zero, I'll be pleased. A couple of things which are a bit irritating are the plastic filler screws in the Tikka and the eye fatigue from 5 or so minutes. Got it sighted, but the reticle is visible without the rifle.

1" grouping at 100, that will change after a bit more practice. As far as functionality goes, I'm pleased.
