Thanks everyone for your input, I realized that I was comparing two totally different rifles, so today I went to gander mtn. And bought a Remington 700 SPS in .270 Win. For $475 dollars regularly it was $599. Pretty good deal only thing left now is a nikon prostaff and Harris bipod...oh and a bulk pack of .270 ammo!

Congrats on the new rifle !!! Post up a pic of your new baby. Those Prostaffs are just fine... can't go wrong with any of your list.

I have three M700s: (a Tactical .308, a Police .308 and a .223 Varmint). Each shoots very well, as-well-as my Kimber LPT but at 50% to 75% the cost. Regardless, I still upgraded them to sport either HS Precision or Bell & Carlson stocks, and Timney triggers** to maximize consistency and accuracy. **I still need to switch-out the Tactical's trigger for a Timney Tactical trigger. I haven't decided on the 4, 6 or 8 ounce trigger. Anyhow, I think the best source for accurate assessments of these and other rifles's unmodified capabilities, is Sniper Central.

Duh! And I forgot to say congratulations! Sorry not trying to be inconsiderate. I had surgery yesterday, and the meds are still wearing off. The .270 Win is a fantastic cartridge! In 90 and 100 grain projectiles, it is a vicious varminter. In 130 grain, there are few rounds that are better for deer.

i say tikkka varmint all day long. i shoot with alot of rem 700s and they can get great groups at 100 yrds with vmax and some other ammos but my tikka will beat them all any day. and if u go to 200 yrds thats when the tikka will be noticed as a great rifle. i can also shoot moa with all ammos where the remington can only do this with certain ammo. it has a 1:8 twist and will shoot anything from 50 to 70 grns where rems will only do good with 50 to 60 grn bullets. my brother wants to trade in his rem now after seeing what my tikka can do
