I went to the range today and rented a G22, to my surprise I really enjoyed it.

Here the question, I want to get either a G17 or a G22. With ammo prices through the roof and the mags in the 17 that will also fit my 19, everything says get the 17.

I want this new gun for the house so by having a 17 or 22 I don't need to worry about concealment. Besides, that is what my G36 is for.

My only concern is do I get the G17 and load it up with 124+P/127+P

or

Get the G22 and load it up with either 165 or 180 and call it a day.

Can any of you fellow Glockster out there please help me with this????

I shoot both well and both fit fine.

I am thinking more along the lines of stopping power.

124+P 9mm

or

165/180 40cal.

I don't know.

Or are they the same???????????????????????????????????????????????

P.S. My hands do not fit the 21SF.

How well do you shoot the G22 compared to the G17? If recoil is negligible between the two and you're confident in your shooting go for the G22. If you feel you're faster with the 9mm and more accurate, I would go for the G17.

I voted 9mm. I think those two loads are so close as to make little difference. Nine-millimeter practice ammo costs much less, enabling more practice to help ensure you place your shots accurately, which is really what it boils down to.

That's what I am looking for

Thanks The Lone Haranguer

I was thinking the same that is there a REAL difference between those two loads.

Ghostrider 23,

Please read in detail if you want to know why ammunition has advanced so much and become so much more effective in the last 20 years:

PM me if you want to know more about this subject.

That being said, I suggest that you go with the Glock in 9mm. The Glock has a much better reliability and durabilty history in 9mm, and from my experience you would be better served with the model 19 due to the versitility of its size. As for defensive ammunition, any of the following would be ideal duty/self-defense ammunition:

9 mm:
Federal Tactical 124 gr JHP (LE9T1)
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP (RA9124TP)
Winchester Partition Gold 124 gr JHP (RA91P)
Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ JHP (RA9TA)
Federal Tactical 135 gr +P JHP (LE9T5)
Federal HST 147 gr JHP (P9HST2)
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)
Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 147 gr JHP (RA9T)
Winchester 147 gr bonded JHP (RA9B/Q4364)

My personal favorite of the bunch is the Federal Tactical Bonded 135gr+P LE9T5 which you can get here(yes, as a civilian you can buy this ammo):

I say of course, go with the 40 s&w. But with that said I would load it with 155 gr. Hydra-Shok. You would have a hard time convincing me that 9mm is better than a 40.

OK you have convince

I believe you all that with a quality 9mm JHP +P there really isn't much of a difference between it and the 40 S&W.

I will either get next week the G17 or the G34. I need to know more about the G34 before I make my final decision.

1. When loaded how well is it balanced?

2. Is it that much more accurate than the G17?

3. For home defense, does the extra length in barrel have pro's or con's?

Load it with 180gr Bonded

Get the G22 and load it with 180gr LE Winchester Bonded-that will put down any threat-Period:evil:
Another good load is the Federal 180gr LE Tactical Bonded:cool:

The Best to You!

9MM or 40S&W

Having owned a Glock 22 , I think the 40. is a better stopper for SD. than the 9mm. The 9mm. in order to match 40. is going to have use +P loads, while the 40. is only using the normal 165 JHP or 180JHPs. Thats why more LE agencies pick 40 S&W.
