In one of those "brain-fart" moments, I shot my chronograph! The sad part is it was a perfect direct hit to the brain so it died instantly with no hope of life support! Since I used it for a couple years, at least I think I got most of my moneys worth out of it. Because I'm new to reloading and am still working up loads I ordered a new Pro Chrono DLX today. I would have liked to been able to get the Labradar since it doesn't go in the direct line of fire, but it's out of my budget being recently retired.

I know that being more careful and slowing down is probably the best prevention for not repeating this again with the new one, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas which may help to better the odds of not shooting it again.

Thank you

You nailed it with the 'being more careful and slowing down' idea. Being careful I have managed to keep my chronograph intact for over 15 years. Finger off trigger until sights are correctly aligned with your target.

Use a rest at all time when shooting through the crony. Set your bullet path way so it's 3-4" min above the center of the unit. If shooting a rifle with a scope I setup the lead sled. This allows me to have the gun on target than I look back though the scope to check alignment. Then back to the gun and double check at low power to make sure I'm centered, lifting the butt of the stock. Another thing you can do if you have a cheap bore laser is use to check your bullet path.

For handguns use a reset at all times. Setup so your shooting high, 6"+ over the unit.

One You tube channel I saw the shooter was shooting from a low bench. He had a log round, good 12 inches in diameter by a couple of feet long positioned directly in front of the chronograph with only the wands showing over.
I can’t really set something like that up but did replace the original aluminum wands that form the shooting zone with wooden dowels.
