I'm reloading 9mm with 4.2 grains of Titegroup and I can't get it to meter consistently in a Hornady AP press. I expect a certain amount of variation, by my measure is throwing as much as a .5 grain high or low. I just don't get it. I've cleaned my measure, degreased it, played around with where the baffle is situated, it just doesn't do any good. It will throw Trail Boss with a variance of .1 grains, and rarely even THAT much. What am I doing wrong?

Is the insert locked down tight? Is it going all the way to the top with a click at the top? Correct insert in?

Just throwing some ideas out. I have the same press, and use a lot of Titegroup, and rarely see any traceable difference on my scale for hundreds of rounds.

I can normally leave, clean everything up, come back days later to do same load, and it still be dead on.

Dumping the first 5-10 charges? Using baffle? I normally don't use one with Titegroup.

Everything is operating as normal. You don't use a baffle? Hmmm, I've never not. I might try that next time.

I always thought that baffles were a "never hurts, usually helps" kind of thing. Will definitely give it a try.

I only tried it after watching some of the Bill Morgan videos on You Tube and he mentioned it, so I tried it, worked great.

Who knows, it might just work, may not.

Maybe your scale is off. Did you calibrate it? I never had a problem with TG.

Degrease the entire pathway the powder travels through from the hopper down into the case.

Look inside the drop tube, are any powder flakes sticking there?

Rub the inside and outside of the hopper with a dryer sheet.

Lube the moving surfaces with a bit of dry graphite powder.

Ground the press to a cold waterpipe.

Use the same motion each time you cycle the press.

Do you have the pistol rotor/piston installed in the dispenser. They come with the Rifle one installed from the factory. When you position the baffle, you want the opening to the side not over the pickup for best results. And positioned in the bottom 1/4 of the column. Being to the side will make it work like a 2 stage regulator. When means you can use the powder down to that level without it impacting your weights.

If you have cleaned the dispense run some graphite through it to lube it. If not it may take a full cylinder of powder to get every thing coated with the graphite.

Hmm, I use TG for 9mm and it went through my LNL really well. I did use the micro pistol rotor for smaller loads and it works wonderfully. I cross checked with digital scale for many loads and it was spot on consistent.

I did see the trick of running some graphite through the machine which looks like a good idea. Good luck, sorry no help

Maybe your powder measure (hopper) and drop tube are "too clean"

After you cleaned it it has to be coated with powder residue again. Open up the meter to drop a lot and Run a whole hopper through it.

Steal you wife's can of static guard and drift some down in the hopper. Let it set for about 10 minutes to dry and try it again. I'll bet all your problems go away.

I removed my baffle because I was getting inconsistent drops. I also coat my powder drop with graphite powder (like instructed) and that makes the powder be more consistent and and free flowing. It doesn't contaminate your powder either. Also make sure you are using the pistol insert. I did that mistake once and my weights were all over the place.

I've seen some guys use an aquarium bubble maker to shake the powder. Some guys have gone so far as to attach an "adult" vibrator to their powder measure. I like the idea of vibrating the powder to make sure it is consistent.

I have to think like JW Rowland with Titegroup Powder. I've never had a problem with it in Thousands of rounds.

Static will get the best of the best metering powders and will drive a person completely in sane trying to figure out what the crap is this.

If you have done your due diligence in setting up your powder measure and know you have the correct parts in it and can't get away from this problem, then you have to accept the facts that you have just joined the ranks of those of us with static problems.

If you ran Trail Boss and had a good experience with it you have to be missing the fact that you used it on a different day than you used the Titegroup.

Tite group meters really well unless you have a static problem because you tried it on a really dry day or you are in an air conditioned room and you used the Titegroup on a really hot day when your air conditioner was running full tilt. They dry the air out and cause all kinds of problems with static if they are running correctly. Titegroup meters really well as long as their is some humidity in the room.

If it's really dry, forget it. Buy some Static Guard. I've been using Titegroup since it came out and have been through the ringer with it. It is one of the best metering powders out there that I have used.

How about static?
Empty the PM & wipe it down with a new dryer sheet.

I'm very surprised to see someone having issues with Tite Group.
That's my go-to powder for several calibers & it measures perfectly for me.
