Ok, I've got a buddy who has moved to Tennessee in the course of the past year. He wants to get a concealed carry permit, but literally doesn't have enough time to take the course they require. So, my question is can a TN resident get a say... non-resident FL permit and have it recognized by TN as a valid permit? Or does the fact that he is a resident of TN prohibit him from this?

I found getting the FL permit was one of the easiest things i've done in ages, i'd just like to see him able to carry concealed as well. Thanks guys! :)

Non Resident Permits

39-17-1351. Handgun carry permits.
(3) (B) If a person with a handgun permit from another state decides to become a resident of Tennessee, such person must obtain a Tennessee handgun permit within six (6) months of establishing residency in Tennessee. Such permit may be issued based on the person having a permit from another state provided such other state has substantially similar permit eligibility requirements as this state. However, if during such six (6) month period the person applies for a handgun permit in this state and such application is denied, the person shall not be allowed to carry a handgun in this state based upon the other state’s permit.

For more information, consult Packing.org.

I was looking at that section just before I posted the thread. I was a little unclear. I see nowhere that it says it would be illegal for him to do this, but you never know. Just wanted to check with some actual residents.

It seems quite clear to me. Once he moves here he can use his FL permit, but he's got 6 months to obtain a TN permit. After that his non-resident permit will not be honored.
