Even if you don't live in TN and just vacation or pass through the state, this piece of legislation is important to you.

Please call/email/send a post card to the conference committee members (contact info in TFA notice) and clearly say that permit holders are uniformly more responsible as a group as is demonstrated by the requirement for a background check and that and that since permit holders in other states safely carry in establishments that serve alcohol without ridiculous fantasies of Hollywood shootouts coming true TN, and visitor, permit holder can be expected to be as responsible as those in Indiana.

Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc.
Legislative Action Committee

The House voted on April 30 not to accept the Senate bill - for a 2nd time. That triggered the appointment of a conference committee.

The committee meeting is tentatively scheduled on Monday, May 4 at 2:00 PM in LP31.

The House Conference Members are Todd, McCord, Armstrong, Bass, Casada

Senate Conference Members are: Jackson, Finney, Burchett, Stanley, Beavers

I would strongly recommend phone calls to all conference members. I suspect we don't have to worry about the Senate members but we need to encourage the House members.

Be firm. Insist that the conference committee adopt and recommend the Senate action. The one possible qualification on the Senate action would be stripping out the definition of a restaurant, however, its a good bill even with that language still in.

Restaurant Carry in TN (Update)

The Tennessee House of Representatives just voted in favor of overturning Governor Bredesen's veto on restaurant carry! Another positive step for RKBA!

The Senate will vote on the issue on Thursday. If Senators overrides the veto - the will law take effect immediately.

Keep the pressure on!

TN House and Senate voted to override the Governor's veto of the bill. It will go into effect July 14, 2009.

Congratulations to everyone who helped push for this to pass.

It's not every day we see a legislative override for a Governor's veto. Congratulations to TN!

Here's hoping Ohio follows suit and passes HB 203.

Nows our chance to reinforce the good behavior of the legislators in the state by sending them compliments for overturning the veto. Please take time to send an email or make a phone call supporting their efforts on our behalf.

Hats off to the main sponsor of the bill, pro-gun Democratic Senator Doug Jackson.

One state down, over 30 more to go.

This is continually mischaracterized as a "guns in bars" bill. In reality, the new (and the unfair one it is replacing) statute applies to any establishment serving alcohol. Who really thinks a potential robber or "active shooter" is going to see a "no guns" sign and say, "Aw, crud, I'll have to go somewhere else!"

Like Hexhead said, there is a new struggle ahead at least in Nashville. I suspect other cities will follow suit if this thing gets momentum. For now we have a positive step forward in TN.

I've received a response to my thoughts about restaurant carry
Councilman Robert Duvall here. While you live out of town, I just want to thank you for writing and supporting our right to carry. I will oppose any and all efforts to infringe upon our right to carry in restaurants that serve alcohol. I will spearhead the opposition to any such ordinance(s).

I also happen to be the Chairman of the Friends of the NRA this year, which is the non-profit arm of the NRA. We raise money to provide funding for our young people to promote shooting teams & gun safety throughout Tennessee.

We have our annual banquet approaching. If you have an interest, please
respond to me through this email address.

Sincerely,
Robert Duvall

I hope that if anyone is local and can support Mr. Duvall, you do so. He sounds like one of us.
