A local dealer has the S&W 637 .38 Special Airweight on sale for the holidays for $390.00. I could perhaps find a use for a .38 snub for a carry gun and would like those experienced with this little revolver to share opinions on it's suitability for the task. Any thoughts on the price are also welcome.

Thanks in advance.

637 S&W

We sell that gun for $425. + tax. They are accurrate and +p recoil is no big deal. You can carry in a pocket holster. Rear pocket of Dress Pants and in Jeans or heavy pants any pocket. It's the gun you can carry all the time and many diferent ways. I load mine with Corbon 125g. 38spl.+p but any hot 38+p is good.

I recently bought the Model 638 (same revolver with the "Bodyguard" frame) and I'm very happy I did. I replaced the stock Uncle Mike's boot grips with Pachmayr Compac grips because they are more comfortable but only slightly larger. http://www.pachmayr.com/pachmayr/index.htm Go to the Speer WEB site and read up on their Gold Dot 135 gr .38 Spl +P "short barrel" rounds. I'm using them and I'm very impressed with them and I'm sure you will also be impressed if you decide to give them a try. http://www.speer-ammo.com/products/short_brl.aspx 20 round box part # 23921, 50 round box part # 53921. Their short barrel .357 Mag and 9mm Luger +P rounds are equally impressive.

637 in my area used to sell for $349, but it recently shot up to $365. $390 is towards the higher end, but it would not stop me.

For carry, you may want to consider the hammerless 642 or shrouded hammer 638. You'll find both designs offer an advantage as far as drawing and not snagging is concerned.
