The path less chosen...
that is the question?
CDNN has .40S&W deluxe full size and "compact" that have only been test fired and have night sights for $249.99!
That price point is irresistable to me even though the last trigger i pulled on a Sigma had to be in the 16lb range! Does anyone know if these are the enhanced (i assume all of them would be enhanced by now) models?
Can you tell by looking at a Sigma if its enhanced or not?
Im not crazy about the price of Sigma normal capacity mags but on the .40S&W its kind of a moot point.I like the looks of em but they have a checkered past.Is it still buyer beware?

CDNN tends to get OLD closeout or used models, hense the good deals. Most likely they're selling out a good deal on un-movable pre-enhanced models. For a 10 round .40 S&W from them for $250 my vote would be for the CZ40.

Tropical Z,

The difference that I know is external. The difference between the newer models and the previous models is the addition of a checkered texture grip and frame rails (to mount a Surefire, laser, etc). There may be internal changes that I'm not aware of.

It`s become all the rage to bash Sigmas even if you`ve never shot one much less owned one. It` seems there are certainly some bad ones floating around out there but if you get a normal one they`re just fine. I had a 40V for a few years myself. I put something over 4000 rounds through it and it was absolutely reliable with everything from light loaded lead semi wadcutters to Corbons. The grip fit my hand very well and used it as a CCW for several years with no reservations. The trigger pull was around 7lbs. and a bit gritty out of the box. Close examination showed that the stamped trigger mechanism parts had never been deburred. It took about 5mins. to clean the edges up a bit and the trigger smoothed out nicely. Why`d I sell it? It shot well in "combat drills" but bullseye accuracy was nothing to write home about, avg. 4" or so at 25yds. I sold it to a friend of mine who`s still very happy with it. It`d put them about on par with an EAA Witness,if you get a good one great,if not well then it may suck. ;) Marcus

I had and I did! I find it to be a jam-o-matic and so are the others I know who had one. Your's probably, is the only exception. Count your blessings! :)
In my neck of woods, we call it the STIGMA! :D :D

the new sigmas can be better as I have they have better slide to frame fit. not sure bout the function and I dont like the trigger myself. ported barrel and slide sucks. the 15 round magazines are worth some money. if you want a good pistol that is similar in design but superior in quality get the Steyr M40,M9 or M357sig or compact version s40. they run for $277 M9-$287 M40 and $369 M357(not many imported),$339 for s40 all availible from CDnninvestments check the catalog. the steyr was built for 40S&W and has good chamber support. glocks on the other hand were built for 9mm originally and dont fully support 40S&W hence glock slide .40 and not 40S&W.
sigma's have good chamber support but the early sigmas are crap. I would take a broken kel-tec p11 over a supposedly working old version sigma. cause I can fix a kel-tec p11(simple design easy to fix).

I have put quite a few rounds through a few diff't Sigmas & have grown not to like them as a result. Today, there are enough polymer guns available so that you can avoid the Sigma quite easily.

Tropical Z is the kinda shooter that likes a lot of bang for the buck value.
I can respect that.
So for him to raise a question about a Sigma is not suprising. Coming from Hi-Points, the Sigma is indeed a huge step up...
Be patient with the young man and he will eventually find his way to dropping the "ma" off the SIGma and he wil be just fine.
For 250 for a NIB gun... It's an attractive option. The LOOK good and they FEEL good. As long has he doesn't shoot it very much, it should be just fine.

Let's make a list of other options for him to spend $250 on.
Make this a challenge. See who can save TZ from a SIGMA!!!!
Viable sources are Gunbroker, auction arms, or some other online source that shows an alternate option with a picture of a gun better than a SIGMA selling for 250 or less. (Shipping and sales taxes are not a concern)

Ready? Set? Go!

Sigmas are a bit more of a crap shoot than many guns and the fixes aren't common knowlege. No one wanted to invest the time to correct the issues apparently.

I already put my vote in for the CZ40 so :neener:

Used Tauruses (Tauri?) if not abused tend to be good bargins but also a bit of a crap shoot.

For rock solid you're either looking at .22 LR chambered guns or more money.

Nay... less of a crap shoot... that one I linked was at 175 with no reserve. If you got it at that price - call Taurus, send it in for work if something is busted and when you get it back it woould be one heck of a good shooter.

Well maybe ill pass. The CZ-40 has always sounded good, but im freaked out about .40S&W's using alloy frames.By the way,i already own an "enhanced" SIG-its called a TZ-99!:D

INEXPENSIVE (not nessisarily cheap) guns and the order I'd buy them in from the latest CDNN flyer:
CZ-52, $130
EAA Polymer Witness, .40 S&W, $250
KelTek Sub 2000, $250, a carbine though. Not a pistol.
DROZD select fire :D BB gun $170

For very little more than the Sigma and in the same caliber I think the Witness is a superior design.

A Witness is certainly a decent gun. But I don't like the polymer ones. I've fired some of them... and they were decent as well.... but the metal frames are much better.

That price ain't so hot, I saw a NIB CZ75 "police" w/ a 10 and 15 round mag on Gunbroker a few months back for under $300. Why buy an ugly Sigma with all its associated problems (esp. mags) ?

Haven't looked since, I don't exactly look for CZ's.

I'm one of the few that loves Smith & Wesson semi-autos, but Sigmas...Bleccchhh!!:barf:

Get a 410 or 410s for that kind of money if you want a S&W.
