Okay, my wife has her SC CWP but will be traveling to FL for business quite soon. I know that she can't carry concealed in GA or FL, but can she keep a handgun loaded in the dash while in FL? I know it is legal in SC for anyone to do this, but don't know about FL.

Thanks!

EDIT: I just found this off a link from packing.org. I guess this settles it --

Carrying In Vehicle
It is not necessary to have a license or permit to carry a loaded firearm in a private vehicle, so long as the gun is "securely encased". Florida law defines a weapon as being securely encased if the firearm is in a glove compartment, whether or not locked, in a snapped holster (not worn on your body!), in a zippered gun case or in a box or other container that requires a lid or cover to be lifted or opened in order to gain access to the firearm. These restrictions do not apply to any person who holds a valid Florida Concealed Weapon License.

NO dashboard carry is illegal. The old 3 step rule while not law is generally accepted. Glove box carry has always been legal. But the gun must be in an enclosed carrier. Either properly encase in a holster, in a zipper bag or box or glove box, not immediatly accessable to the driver. Glovebox is the most common down here just don't have your ticket papers in there with it( DL Reg, Ins Cert). I usually drive around with the glovebox door open or with the gun in a box by my gear shift ( I work the overnight shift in a rough area) That way if pulled over I can toss the gun in the glovebox without any "furtive movemants".

I'm with semf - keep it in a holster or rug, in a closed glove box or console. No liscence required. Loaded is fine. Or just carry a shotgun next to ya!
