Absolutley nothing. Today I decided I wasnt going to carry and I was just fine.

I expected a negative reaction to this, so your thread took some courage.

Honestly, just to play devil's advocate I think there are THR members who are actually unable to go out without their CCW. They assume the second they do it, a bank robbery, mugging, or shootout like the one in "HEAT" will occur.

I would say this- try it for a day. Try not CCWing for a week. See what happens. I'm not being anti-CCW, but you would be surprised to find it really hones your mental radar. You suddenly don't have a safety net in case things go sour, so it forces you to proactively scan (even more than before). JMO

I have seen someone here post they have a stainless revolver so they can shower while armed. I think I beleive them. I have seen members post they refuse to go on vacation because of arms restrictions. I did not carry for 33 years and I have been fine. I carry as much as possible now and I am still fine.

Just because it isnt comfortable, doesnt mean its not necessary.

Amen!

The more it digs in and the heavier it is the better. At least you won't forget it's there.

I am always conscious of the fact that I am carrying and that there might be a time when I may have to defend myself. My mental radar is always honed and I do scan proactively. I guess I'm programed from being a combat infanrtyman, who also put 20 years in as a LEO. Anyway, I just hope all my shooting will be done at the range, but I'm prepared for the other alternative. Let's hope it never comes about. Have a good day and happy shooting.

I agree with the overall premise. Tonight I went to a restaurant with my wife and SIL, and I didn't want to carry a metric ton of metal. I slid the Graham Stubby in my shorts (yes, bikers do wear short pants during these muggy days in Wisconsin) and then I promptly forgot about the issue.

Yes, I also believe in condition yellow.

The only thing I would add is that in a debate, you cannot prove a negative.

For example, I carried a large stiletto in high school--I was never in a knife fight, not even close. I was also never beaten up.

You could make the case that no one wanted to be stabbed by some crazy and three of his equally deranged friends. Fair enough.

But I also carried a "penny charm" my Dad gave me as a small child to scare off tigers.

In the nineteen years I lived in and around Milwaukee, I was never bitten by a tiger, so you could also claim that it worked.

Well Ronstar, are you sorry you shared that post yet?
Never I would not have posted it otherwise. I am particularly surprised in the reactions to this post for the most part alot of the posts seem rather childish to me having a firearm for self defense and having homeowners insurance are an entirely different matter so comparing the two just makes you sound ignorant. As for my justification for not carrying I have recently moved and to be quite honest don't feel much need for it. Oh and the comment someone made about perhaps Im sitting back and laughing about this I am well atleast at alot of the posts either most of my fellow highroaders live in some crime hardened ghettos or a third world country somewhere and sounds like alot live a life of excessive fear. As for the comment somebody made about I shouldnt post my buisness if I dont want others to poke in it thats not true but if you dont have anything better to say then "dont where your seatbelt" or "cancel your homowners insurance" obviousley this thread wasnt for you when I read threads that I feel are pointless I generally choose not to post in them alot of you will probably take this post the wrong way but that is not my goal what I think makes these forums so good is there are so many different kind of shooters collectors and firearms gurus that share there knowledge and ideas about all the different issues concerning firearms.

Carrying a pistol everyday, is like praying everyday. True enough, you are no more likely to have to draw every day, than you are to face God everyday. But, someday you may have to draw. Better to carry in case you have to draw, just like it's best to pray daily in case you have to face God. I suspect that if I ever had to draw, it might help me to delay the latter (facing God). JMHO.

:D

I threw away my fire extinguishers and my house didn't burn down today.

I didn't wear my seatbelt and I wasn't killed in an auto accident today, either.

Can we get back to some relevant conversation for a change? Please...
