Man Charged With Threatening NPS Special Agent

Kurt Amacher, 46, of Montebello, Virginia, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a ten-count indictment – one count of threatening an NPS agent, two counts of illegal possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of an unregistered firearm, three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition. According to the indictment, sometime between January 1, 2006 and March 29, 2006, Amacher sent a letter threatening to murder a special agent with the National Park Service in order to retaliate against the agent for performing his official duties. Amacher, a former maintenance supervisor at Blue Ridge Parkway, was previously indicted in November 2005 for stealing government property, possession of child pornography on government property, and possession of a machine gun. Amacher pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced in June 2006 to five years and eleven months in prison. During the investigation of information revealed in the letters, agents found two machine guns, six rifles, three pistols, a shotgun, and ammunition belonging to Amacher. As a result of his previous conviction, Amacher is prohibited from possessing any firearms. If convicted on all counts, the maximum penalty faced by the defendant is 90 years imprisonment and/or a fine of $1,770,000. The investigation of the case was conducted by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Steve Pfleger will prosecute the case. A grand jury indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

I guess somebody is in a bit of trouble.

Not too bright, is he?

Definitely something fishy in Montebello (A bad joke, there's a state trout hatchery there.)

Googled up a report on the earlier convictions:

Beginning in December 2004 and continuing through August 2005, Amacher purchased the following items on his government credit card and took them for his own use despite that they belonged to the United States through the National Park Service.

*Auxiliary Fuel Tank worth $589.99

*Auxiliary Fuel Tank Installation Kit worth $279.99

*Fitch Fuel Catalyst worth $434.42

*Dewalt 18 Volt Tool Kit worth $399.20

*12 Volt Super Winch worth $168.88

Amacher then lied to investigators about what he did with these items, including how the Auxiliary Fuel Tank got into the back of his personal pickup truck and how he paid for the fuel tank.

During the execution of a search warrant, agents found images of child pornography on Amacher’s personal computer and on DVDs in the bag of his government-owned laptop computer he used while employed with the National Park Service.

And a machine gun in a trailer, too. JT

Not real sure that a person (if he can even be called that) that steals a "12 Volt Super Winch worth $168.88" will have the funds to pay a $1.77MILLION fine...

But... a scumbag none-the-less.
