"TOLEDO, Wash. — A homeowner shot and killed a stranger he caught coming up the stairs inside his residence in Toledo.

The Lewis County sheriff's office says the 62-year-old resident was awakened about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday by the sound of someone breaking into his home.

When the intruder refused two commands to "freeze," the homeowner fired once. The suspect died at the scene."

Perhaps this will give a few latte-sipping anti's pause about the proposed (unconstitutional) Seattle Gun Ban.

........although it is fairly telling this get's barely a paragraph, while gang shootings make headlines for days or weeks :banghead:

I'm surprised the liberal Seattle news didn't make the intruder a victim. I'd rather read a small article about a person defending their life and home, than big aricle about a robbery-murder that occurred overnight.

edited.

I still don't know what were discussing, aside from the obvious.

A firearm is a useful tool for defending yourself.

Water is wet.

We dont just post news stories where people shoot other people.

highorder, is that the editorial 'we' or the royal 'we' ?

i have been noticing a trend amoungst even the liberal press to not be as harsh in their reporting of [seemingly] reasonable self-defense uses of firearms. to have posted like minded news is useful in knowing that it is not just a regional phenomena.

thank you (Pb)

The topic is the time-tested one about people having the right to defend themselves without inteference.

I'm not really familiar with this proposed ban in Washington but if it restricts a law abbiding citizen from owning, carrying, using, buying or selling a firearm in anyway shape or form than it is something I cannot support nor should anyone else that believes in the Bill of Rights.

I like coffee too. The "ban" you speak of has no corrolation to armed defense of the home.

We dont just post news stories where people shoot other people.

Me too. It's a metaphor, and if you have ever been to Seattle, you'd know what I mean.

The point is that he defended himself from harm with a legally owned firearm when the police were unable to help in time. It's good to get the word out about this kind of (unfortunate) thing, because I often hear from anti-firearm types that having a gun for self defense is not actually helpful. I just read an article like this in Seattle's own newspaper in fact (The Stranger).

EDIT: And here's a link:

Noted.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood;

But posting that article here isn't "getting the word out," its preaching to the choir.

Whenever I read stories like this, I'm more interested in caliber and shot placement.

I dont really see them making the connection. The new ban is about not allowing guns in any places where you'll find kids (or crowds) like parks, etc.

It is BS, but not really related to home defense.

Noon news is saying the first legal challenge was filed today against that ban btw...*clap clap*

It's also saying that the Lewis County police are trying to determine if the shooting in Toledo was legitimately in self-defense. *sigh*

Maybe not. It still helps in the battle of public opinion.

As for preaching to the choir, my reason for posting this here is just because I thought people would find it interesting.

because I thought people would find it interesting

and, again, as i said in post #4: disseminating information from the west coast to the east is useful.

useful as in, say, my daughter who started a 'riflery & marksmanship' club at a Ct university. that the mind set of the mainstream press is becoming less harsh gives more power ( information is power, yes?) with the schools administration and when being interviewed by the local media.
