Too Dangerous To Shoot??

I had to reset my seating die, and I would up seating it a little too deep for crimping. It has wound up knocking the shoulder back, so that when the cartridge is placed in my headspace gage, it sticks above the top about .001. Thankfully, I figured out that something was wrong after 5 cartridges were finished.

Question is, are these few cartridges too dangerous to shoot? By the gage, they are in fact out of limits, all be it a very small percentage. FWIW, these will be shot from my FAL; I suspect the chamber is a little looser in tolerance compared to my M1A Loaded.

No, not yet. Actually, the FAL won't be here till Friday, I'm just getting some loads ready.

How many did you load? Pull the bullets, resize, and reload if there are any questions about safety. Better safe than sorry.

I agree with palabman,
The possibility of the round not allowing the bolt to fully close and lock.....dunno..have heard of problems with firing out of battery. not a gunsmith but seems possible to me.
not worth the risk.

I absolutely hate pulling bullets. But when I do something out of spec I pull them anyway. Some people figure it's only a one in a million, but somebody has to be the ONE!!!

Did the rounds you loaded after you adjusted your die all fit in your gauge?

Did the rounds that were out of spec load into your M1A?

If so, I would just shoot them. Having said that, If you don’t feel safe doing something, you are most likely right. Go with your gut.
A few rounds don’t cost that much.

Your chamber is your best gauge.

and chances are good they will chamber, so no sweat. Fired many like that in a Mini 14 with its generous chamber.

pull the bullets and chunk them better safe than sorry, but its your hand and eyes

You do realize how small .001 is right? The chamber is probably at least .001 larger than the cartridge gauge. Most of these type rifles have rather loose chambers.
I would wait until you get your gun and make sure that they chamber OK.

Like Walkalong said, they should chamber and shoot with out any problem.
