Too Stupid To Own A Gun?

Where does it stop, and who decides who is "dumb" and loses their rights? Just remember, they might think you are dumb too.

Exactly! Some people have no issue with denying suspected terroist of their rights but what happens when the Govt considers you a terrorist?

I hear people all the time say "well it does not effect me because I am not a criminal." What happens when you become a suspected criminal? :banghead:

There is a test required to obtain a drivers license. All licensed drivers have been qualified by the state to drive. Yet, there are many fatal (and many more no-fatal) accidents every year even though all drivers involved are properly qualified.

If the tests for driving don't stop accidents from happening, why would tests for firearms handling have any better success?

We dont limit the right of people because we think they may do harm to others, or we think they are to 'stupid' to be responsible.

In the following examples, 'stupid' is reference to persons with a lack of common sense, not in the mentally-handicapped sense.

Do we let stupid people vote? Yes. Would anyone argue against that? (Aside from trolls...) No. Everyone has that right.

Do we let stupid people have religions? A belief is more dangerous than any firearm could ever be, but those rights are uninhibited.

Who would enforce this? The government? (Aside from sterilization in the 50's) Our government has never 'declared' any too stupid to do anything.

Imagine if the government eroded the rights of anyone with 'undesireable' traits, in this case stupidity. Now, with politics the way they are, that would be expanded, and would create a class of 'inferior' persons, subject to the 'superior' government.

How is that any different than Nazi Germany?

Rellascout,
My statement comes from my personal observations around other shooters. Most of the time for example, at the range, if there are 20 people there shooting, most handle their weapons respectfully. There may be a few questionable characters, but in general it's pretty safe. Now I'm not talking about flawless handling cause everybody has a brain fart every now and then, I'm just speaking in general.

You will always remember the screw ups, but often forget the unnoticed safe handling.

I tend to notice both... LOL

I guess my point is that those 20 people at the range are still the minority of "gun owners" in this country. The majority never go to a range. :what:
