S&W M&P CORE 9L (not ported), Apex FSS and trigger, RMR 3.25 MOA dot, Taylor Freelance 28-round mag extension.

Got beat by a few fast/semi-pro HiCap shooters and a few PCC shooters.

Placed 2nd out of 27 in Open division, 10th out of 167 overall. Long hot day. FUN!

Need to save for a race holster. And do some situps.

Congratulations! Now practice. A shooter's skill is much more important then the particular equipment they use. :)

Yes... but I find I hang up in the belt slide safariland holster more often than I like when I'm practicing. Cutting a second off my movement is not very likely (trying but food is good). Cutting a second or a half off my draw is pretty likely. After 12 stages, .5 seconds per stage would have added up to a win vs second place.

I do agree that equipment is secondary. One bad stage can also kill you... I left shooting positions several times without the last target down. Completely irrelevant of equipment and totally on me.

Kind of hard to see, but if you are not using a drop/offset hanger, and they are allowed where you are shooting, I would say get one of those.

I've personally seen far more "holster hangups" with race holsters that people forgot to unlock than with kydex. Also the limited national champion has used regular kydex a lot recently. I doubt a race holster can cut more than a tenth off your draw all by itself. ymmv of course. I view them as mostly being needed in open (and sometimes limited I guess) due to gas pedals, optic mounts, slide rackers, or whatever else won't fit in a kydex, but I think you are going to be disappointed if draw speed is the main reason you want a race holster.

I think my main problem is clearing the shirt/lovehandles. An offset would help. Drops do help a bit but I would prefer moving the grip outward significantly.

I've seen some wicked fast draws with standard belt kydex holsters but they are generally skinny dudes without blubber in the way. This one has a little more tension than I'd like also, even with the adjustment screw backed all the way out so it rattles.

fantastic shooting!

looks like a fun course of fire too!

my ideal match would be shooting that with a pistol, then backing up to 500 yards and shooting it again with a rifle

i wish there was a way to reset targets faster or i would be hosting that! haha

That would be cool. At the 3-gun matches they do usually have a plate rack at about 100 and flashers and steel torsos out to 400 or so. I usually can't hit anything with rifles but once in a while I get lucky.

Congrats.

Thinking about trying a USPSA match this coming weekend, will be my first try so it should be fun.

I just had to post to say
And do some situps

(Trying to remember the last time I did any :) )

Congrats and good shooting!

Would you mind sharing what the match load was?

It's not a published load so I will refrain. It is my standard range/plinking/bulk 9mm load which lately has been a 124 Xtreme plated RN over WST. I'll let you guys decide whether you want to do that and work up your own loads.

THR neither endorses nor recommends the use of unpublished loads and you are fully responsible etc.
