Well yesterday was "take a South African shooting" day. My new friend John is here from SA and we went out ot the desert for a bit of fun. Bit of background info. In SA they have what I would call extreme gun control. You must get a permit for each gun and a permit to buy ammo and they also have some type of general license which must be renewed every 2-3 years and the bad news is they arent renewing them. John owns a .22-410 combo type rifle, an SMLE a Star 9mm and a 22 of some sort. He isnt used to shooting mass quantities of ammo (He was shocked by the fact that we brought approx 4-5K of ammo with us) so we did our best to give him a day he would not forget. First up were revolvers, Colts, Smiths, in .38 .357 .44mag Then we did autos HK's, Glock's, Springfield & Colt in 9mm .40 .45 Next up were shotguns Benelli M3, Remington 870, Mossberg 590 all in 12 ga Then switched to rifles. M1A's Fullsize, Scout and SoCom and then a FAB-10 Last up was the Serbu BFG .50 cal. John was a little "shell shocked" by the time we were done but he said it was the type of day he had always dreamed about. We take for granted our freedoms here and I was constantly reminded of that while discussing SA gun laws with John.
