I have befriended an Indian guy at work, 2nd gen born here in The States. He is a medical student. We were talking about hobbies and ended up discussing shooting sports. I told him I'm an avid shooter and he was intrigued.
Finally had a nice day so I took him out this evening to my hunting property. We discussed firearm safety and proceeded to shoot.
We started him off with my Ruger 22/45 and MkIII hunter model. He was doing well with this.
We then moved to my 15-22. He enjoyed the longer sight radius and minimal recoil.
He favored the 22/45 so I let him shoot up about 100 MiniMags. I the. Asked if he wanted to shoot my 1911. One magazine worth and he was stoked. Grinning ear to ear. He blasted through about 35 or so hand loads I had.
Then with much anticipation I took out my Sig M400. Loaded up 5 rounds and showed him the controls and that it didn't kick much. I loaded up 5 and let him shoot it. He was astounded at how minimal recoil there was and how deveatating it was to a full soda can. I then let him finish off the remaining 20 or so rounds 10 at a time.
I'd definitely say he's on "our" side, not that be was against it before, but he understands now the relaxing pleasure of plinking.
Even though it "cost" me 2 boxes of MiniMags, 35 hand loaded 45acp and 40 rounds of 223; it was well worth it. In his defense he did try to find ammo at 3 different places before turning up empty handed. He did buy the soda targets and offered to give me some cash. I told him to start saving for his first gun.
Just wanted to report something positive. Shoot safe.
