Got to take my daughter and her 16 year old friend shooting today. Her friend had never fired a gun and she was eager to learn. Started with .22’s then Glock 40s&w, then she handled the .44 mag. Very good first time shooting experience. Taking new shooters is what I really enjoy. Didn’t want to post any photos of someone else’s daughter but we all had a great time. Anyone else enjoy taking newbies?

You have done a good thing my friend.

I work at a state university student computer lab,,,
I've introduced many young men and women to shooting.

The majority of them enjoy shooting but will never go on their own,,,
But some of them have become avid shooters in their own right.

So yes I truly do "enjoy taking newbies" to the range,,,
Very few things are as satisfying as watching

I've even been known to gift a pistol to a very select few kids,,,
Our school mascot is Pistol Pete so one young lady got this as a graduation gift.

She took to shooting like a duck to water,,,
Her father bought her a S&W M&P Compact 22.

She liked shooting my Colt Frontier Scout quite a bit,,,
So I bought her this Heritage single action,,,
And made the gun belt and holster.

Right now I have two young ladies and one guy chomping at the bit to go,,,
But with this pandemic we all decided to wait a while.

I too see no reason a newbie can't handle a round or two of .44 Mag,,,
But I do have them work up to it in several stages,,,
.22, then .38, then 357 Mag, then .44 Mag.

I save the empty shells and put them in a small jar,,,
They seem to like the keepsake.

Keep it up my friend,,,
Few endeavors are more satisfying to the soul.

Yep. I agree 44 mag is not usually a 1st timer gun. She was having so much fun I knew she would enjoy it. Truth be told. These were my handloads and the were medium at best. Thanks for the post.

I was at the range shooting one of my 44 magnums and some of guys were shooting 9mm a couple of stalls down from me. One of them came up to me and asked what I was shooting and I told him. He said his buddy was going into the military tomorrow and he would like to shoot something bigger than a 9mm. He ask if they could try the 44 magnum and I said yes. They came to my stall with a RO and I instructed them on how to load the revolver and what to expect. They loved it and it made me feel better that I helped them expand their shooting experience. I know they both got hooked on shooting a revolver. Made my day.
