Ordered from CDNN on Tuesday, but I screwed that up by also buying a plane ticket earlier the same day, causing the gun purchase to run afoul of my self-imposed daily debit card limit of $500. No problem, CDNN said they would run it through the following morning. My FFL agent received the gun the day after that, Thursday - a day earlier than expected. Now I am in Austin, and CDNN is in Abiline, but I still think 1 day shipment for only $10 is pretty good.

The gun is sweet. I've never shot one before, but I had handled an M40 and liked the way it felt. The discussions on this forum and TFL about the Steyr line, plus my knowlege of the overall Steyr reputation for quality and innovation, plus the kickass price of $340 convinced me that this gun was a good risk to try sight unseen.

I received it NIB, with hard case, owners manual, and 1 mag. I ordered another mag at the same time for $20. The gun is very tight, all pieces fitting together well. Nothing feels loose that shouldn't feel loose. Trigger is smooth and short, quite light (rated pull weight is 5lbs, but I can't measure it). Pull is less than the SA pull on either my Makarov or 6906 (probably not saying much). Takedown is super-simple, taking about 2-3 seconds once I figured it out. The insides of the gun are very well finished. The inside of the slide is as finished as the exterior; no tool marks that I can see.

The only anomaly - and I expected this - is that the original importer stamp was melted away on the poly frame and replaced with one from GZI, the new importer (formerly it was GSI, I think). I had heard that the CDNN Steyrs came this way, but I'm not sure who did this or why. Anyway, it looks a little odd - kind of a blemish on an otherwise perfect gun, but I can live with it. This is going to be a shooter and my primary carry once I break it in.

I'll post a range report after I get back from shooting with my dad in Houston this weekend.

Cheers all.

congrads on a smart purchase

I love my cdnn catalog,I think I need a few more jobs to support my habit.
you cant beat a sub $400 gun that shoots well.
all the money you saved should buy some nice plinking rounds, davidsons has the m40's for like $600.

Congrats..........

Hopefully you will dicover as I did that the Steyr's are a gem of a weapon. Once you get used to the trapazoidal sights you will find that they are bloody fast for target acquisition. A LEO friend of mine borrowed my M40 to "put it through the paces" on their combat course. He is now seriously pissed that his department won't let him carry a Steyr instead of the currently proscribed Glock.

STEYR

I love my Steyr S40. I bought mine from CDNN last winter. It was my daily carry gun while I lived in IA. Now that I am in WI I don't have the option to cary, but hopefully that will change soon.

I have never had a a single problem with my S40. I have used every cheap ammo on the market with no problem. The one thing I was a little ticked about was the melted out GSI Stamp. Why ruin the look of a finely crafted gun!! Oh well, I am not leaving this thing around to admire it. I bought it because it shoots so well. I also bought a M40, and M9. Once you have tried one the the Steyrs it is hard not to buy the rest of the set. I found a company up in Canada that is selling the .357 Sig barrels for the M40. They still want a $120 for the barrel but that is allot cheaper then the $399 for the gun. Enjoy the your Steyr.
