Well I finally got a day off with my Fiancee, and took her to the shooting range for her first time. She shot some great 3/4 inch groups with my Marlin 795 .22. Fifteen or twenty minutes before we left, we were out of targets. We were sitting at the 100yrd range and I told her to try to hit the clothes pins that were holding up the targets. I loaded up four rounds for her, and proceeded to talk to the range superintendent. Not 30 seconds later she said "All done." I looked over and the targets were laying on the ground. She had hit each pin with one shot. Blew them to smithereens. Now she wants a gun of her own. I'm looking to spend around $3-400 for her gun as a gift. Any Ideas on a great .22lr? She is new but she is good. First she did it with a scope, then I took it off and she did it again with Iron sights. Luck....maybe but that would be some pretty good luck. She only missed once with the irons! You tell me what you think would be good for her.:what::cool:

Sounds like she is definitely a "keeper"!

A Ruger 10/22 is hard to beat for a .22LR and she can customize it to her tastes.

I really like the Winchester Wildcat.

It is bolt action... but it's accurate. Based on the TOZ-78 which is also very accurate if you have ever handled one. :) I own both models, and really like them both. Either gun can out shoot a modded Ruger 10/22 with no problem. ;)

Be prepared for the response "Ruger 10/22" from a lot of people. I also own two 10/22's, but would take the Wildcat over either one any day of the week. Just a better gun.

Great idea on the bolt action but she told me she wanted semi-auto. I told her to keep her mind open to new things. I think she is hung on that because of my gun. I'll have to take out a few of my friends bolts to see how she likes them. I'm not ruling them out, but she wants what she wants.

Get her a Browning 22 auto - Belgian is the Haute Couture version (have to find a used one; I got my daughter one), but the Japanese iteration is also extremely well made. It just exudes class and that, je ne sais quoi, essence de cool...

You can't leave a Marlin 60 out of the running. I just got mine and absolutely LOVE IT!

Accurate as heck and it shoots the cheapest ammo I could find into little bitty single ragged holes.

That's what I would get my wife, if she wanted a .22!

Ha, I took my fiance to the range to the last weekend. She still wouldn't shoot, but at least I got her through the door. But my friend, who used to be an anti did, and she was loving it!!!

I second the Browning SA22, nice female design. And while your busy, get her some Belgian chocolates and get yourself a sixpack Belgian beer

haha

If she's anything like my fiance, I'd say you will be looking for a new rifle.

I vote for CZ452. They are accurate enough to compliment her skill and some versions have good iron sights. I go back and forth between range trips with the 452FS (irons) and 453 varmint (scoped).

I am actually drinking Belgian beer right now, left-overs from my 21st Birthday.

Pics or it didn't happen!

All I have to show are 6 of the 8 clothes pins she shot. It started raining and killed the targets I made. I also wasn't expecting a Kodak moment to happen on her first day. Oh well next time I'll video tape it.

I recently purchased the 10/22 Target Tactical for $420 and its been great so far. Its got a lot of the upgrades on it that you'd want later, right there from the start. IMHO i'd rather pay a bit more for it and get the bull barrel then start with a plain jane 10/22. If not that, then I'd choose the target version of the Wildcat. Hard to find in my area however.

I should make a poll thread. I have decided to give her the gun I already own. She wants to paint it lime green. So now I will be looking for another, (Or 2).
