Went to the local outdoor range today and wife consented to go. She has shot some but is not 'into' it very much. Nobody else there-weather cool, clear and nice.

Got her too shoot the AR-15!!! She did well and actually enjoyed it! Was not scared of it at all.

She also shot my Para Ord P-14 with some modest loads. Did well, was not intimidated but did not like it much. It 'jumped around too much' to suit her.

She shot my Ruger 22/45 A LOT. She really likes shooting it and shoots it really well.

She may even want to go back!

Take somebody shooting!

Taking the wife to the range

I have been dragging my wife to the range for over 30 yrs. Tried her on small bore rifle, handgun silhouette, IPSC and finally cowboy action. She likes the cowboy action, never really cared for any of the other stuff. Now she wants to go to the range. I have given her her own guns. I still clean them and reload the ammo for them.

good show!

the next trick is to teach her how to clean them

then mention how no way could any woman clean a gun better than a MAN cause thats MAN stuff and only a MAN could do it right...

with a little luck she'll take over the cleaning chores just to prove to you how wrong you are...

Its sometimes not worth trying to get significant others to clean the guns. I taught my girlfriend how to clean an AR15 so she could clean along with me, but a 30-40 minute job of cleaning a few guns takes more than two hours when she tries to help because she always asks if she's doing every little step right (after I explained a little too graphically that forgetting the bolt cam pin will have very bad reprocusions). She means well, but she doesnt trust herself to get it right so I basically have to teach her to do it all over again (we also only go shooting 5-6 times a year, so she doesnt clean them very often).

Next time we have to clean the guns, I swear I'm just going to hand her my AK and a toothbrush and let her figure it out. Theres no way she could spend more than 15 minutes cleaning that gun.

lol...

kharn

at least she tried, mine won't even do that but given your insights maybe it aint such a good idea after all...

it (my xm15) would probably come back to me with a pretty pink bow and smelling all sweet and stuff...

"here honey, i used the herbal apple blossom bath crystals on it in the dishwasher and it came out soooo much cleaner than with the hoppes..."

:what:

That's awesome. My wife will go with me, but she has to force herself in the interest of spending time together. She's always been a complete "Anti", so the small steps are big victories.

The first time she went with me was an interesting night. It was pre-ownership days for me back then, but my brother had given me a gift certificate to the local range; specifically to shoot the HK MP5 they have there as a rental. I couldn't convince her to shoot that ( I guess full auto was a little too scary for her; hell it was freaking ME out), but we rented an old Ruger MK I (I think that's what it was) and she rather enjoyed shooting that.

She's since fired my BERSA 380 and my brother's Taurus Model 83 (38 special) and she's pretty keen on shooting the Taurus. The local shop has them on neverending sale for $299, so I think that might be a secret birthday present for her next month (and if she doesn't like it....oh darn, I guess >I< will have to keep it!)

I think it was important to start her out on the small .22 and let her shoot the thing until she was so comfortable with it that she was almost bored. Now a larger caliber isn't as intimidating and sort of seems like a challenge to her.

She's taken the bait; now I just have to keep reeling her in........

Oh man....our wives must be twins.

That made me laugh so hard I started prairie doggin'....

So how did you talk her into going? Bribes?
My wife will not go to the range. No way, no how. OK, she did go once when our favorite Niece was visiting and she and her husband wanted to go. My wife shot a .38 special, once. Kept her eyes closed the whole time.
When our son was younger we bought him a 10/22 for his birthday and he got pretty good with it but she wouldn't go with us to let him prove it.
She's not aniti, "tolerates" my hobby and even gets me shooting stuff for gifts but refuses to participate.

I think she went with me, honestly, just so we could do something new together.

Of course it's been about two years now, so I can't remember if she used it against me to get something SHE wanted or not!

Good stuff Critter ........ :)

Not that long ago I posted ''My wife's a star'' ........ which was after I had gotten my wife to the range properly, after quite some while, in order to have her shoot many things .. all familiarization etc. But she excelled ... even surprised herself i think ....... and enjoyed it.

She most liked the M66 357 ..... tho with 38 spl loads ... that is now ''hers'' so she has at least an HD gun. Don't think she'll ever CCW but then often times we are together when out so I cover that base.

Let's see, my wife and I have competed in handgun action shoots together, flew to Neveda to shoot UZI's, taken the NRA's Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home classes together and we both have our CCW's.

Most recently we tried her out on a Sig 239 and HK P7M8 for possibly carry guns and discovered that she REALLY likes the old Smith and Wesson Model 10 .38 revovler. She also discovered she likes my CZ 75. Her favorite gun is still the Ruger Mk II Govt Target Model though.

When she isn't fatigued and concentrates, she can outshoot me.

Not bad for somebody who didn't like guns when we started dating and only relunctantly went shooting with me the first few times.

I still have to do all the gun cleaning though. She can't stand the smell of Hoppes #9. Can't have it all, I guess.

OK guys, here's a twist. I have to drag my husband to the range! Once we get there he has fun. I buy my own guns, shoot them and clean them. I love the smell of Hoppe's in the afternoon! On day I asked him to let me shoot his Colt 1911. I had always been fearful of .45's because of all the stories. Wow! I loved it. Since then two Kimbers followed me home, a Kimber Target Classic .45 and a Kimber Ultra II. Just purchased a Beretta 20 ga semi-auto and the grand kids are having a wonderful time shooting clays. Now we have 500 shells to reload. And yes, I help reload.

skirmish,,,

i 'll bet there are many hearts breaking out there right now over the fact that youre married...
