Top Shot - Season 3

Freaking A! The preview for next week looks insane!

I swear they need to open this place up to the public afterwards.........

if my theory is correct and it would seem to be something like a violation on Jake's part in order for it to be possible to legitimately bring Mike back.

.Mike Hughes, all around good guy and a great shooter and sportsman. And inventor. And will, I suspect probably win this show or be in the top two.

Well is there any reason for us to watch the rest of the show...I think you just spoiled it for us :what: ;)

Seriously, I don't know who wins. Nor did I know for a fact that they would bring Mike back. I had a hunch, combined with the previews for this weeks show with some observations, and a lot of wishful thinking. Even the name of the episode was a hint!

Just think how stupid I would have looked if they didn't end up bringing him back, which I though twas a possibility up to the point they brought him back on.

If I were Phil id be about 30% perturbed. It was fair. But he could have beat jake.

EDITED BY STAFF (that's gonna get edited but I think you get the idea that he is a little whimpery girl)

Next week looks crazy. Notice they didn't even give them a stock? They're operating the "push out on the shoulder sling to stabilize" method. Oh, and btw, we're spinning in circles. Awesome.

crazy anyone know for what college football team jake coaches?
cant imagine he will be keeping that job much longer
not sure i like the whole bring the last guy back but in this case its ok since it probrably chapped jakes hide even more
and i think phil could have still pulled out the win if he single loaded the last shots instead of dropping the mag
mike did for his missed shots

On a completely different note, I think I know who they cloned for the show host. Anybody remember the Twilight Zone's Rod Serling?

oh wow did some searching and apparently he did coach at new hampshire but is no longer listed with the coaching staff

That is a classic, movie worthy line. Cheers! ;)
:D

Tonight's Episode?

UN....Believable!

I cannot believe anybody would 'walk' off the show without even TRYING to finish.

Now, that, 'alone,' says NOT special forces material by any measure. One of the 'foundational' characteristics of people of that magnitude is their inborn 'refusal' to quit.

I'm speechless. By all accounts, Jake could've absolutely still won the show.

I'm thrilled Mike is back, but it does suck for Phil. He had the opportunity to duke it out with a guy he sincerely wanted to defeat and eliminate and Jake basically stole that from him when he quit. I just seriously cannot believe somebody would do that.

Yeah, that was questionable when the guy threw it last season, but that was for a worthy cause and just a whole 'nother ballgame altogether.

Well, Good Riddens. The rest of the show should be pretty enjoyable.

That next challenge looks like a Blast.

To me, this says three things about Jake:

1. He is a loser. Only way to get to the elimination stage.

2. He is a quitter. Sends a bad signal to his players.

3. He is not going to live this down for a while. I think he'll be living down the above two for much of the rest of his life.

One thing about Top Shot is that the majority of the shooters I'd love to go to the range with sometime. Jake is someone I WOULD NOT be interested in going out with. (Jay either, but mostly because I don't think Jay'd teach me anything.)

For this ep, I loved seeing the Sako. I got started in shooting with a Remington 6mm Varmint rifle that was capable of .1 MOA with handloads out to 300 yards, and seeing super-accurate rifles in that class is a joy. I am somewhat pondering a bipod now. . .

Ok someone in this thread must have inside information....how did bringing back Hughes make any sense at all

I Thought this the second they said they were bringing Mike back... One thing for sure I sure didnt see this coming.

They should have had Colby take Jake's place, and if he lost a shoot (which I'm betting he would) HE'D be booted off the show. Geesh, am I the only one that really gets tired of hearing him talk?

Actually, when it was first suggested, I almost asked the poster of the comment if they'd been watching The Ultimate Fighter.

In TUF if a fighter gets injured and can't continue, or is otherwise excused from the show, they have to bring back the most recent, most promising contestant to have been eliminated.

I'm sure it's not the only show to have a protocol of this nature, but it's the one I thought of when this possibility was suggested.

I just never believed it would actually happen on Top Shot.

Sure enough........

Glad Mike's back.

It's good to see that Jake lost. I was disappointed that he made it this far. However, what is it with Mike and his stupid toe shoes? They have got to be the dumbest things I've ever seen.
You may not like them but when my son was attempting to get into Ranger school, he found that those were the preferred shoes of the Rangers for there workouts etc. they can't be too dumb. From what I understand, once you get used to them, everything else pales in comparison.

Ironically Jake had a good chance to win elimination challenge. He did better than Phil in the previous rifle challenge.

Quitting like that tells me he didn't have the confidence to believe he could win.

Actually, I really liked "Cliff", who got eliminated right before Mike. I hated the fact that he got nominated because of the bounced arrow competition - I thought that was a lame competition. Cliff was an exceptional pistol shooter.

While I'm on this, am I the only one that thinks that Chris must be the luckiest competitor on this show? I think his skills are marginal at best. If I had to vote on who I think the winner should be (overall performance) up to this point it would be either Phil or Alex. To be honest, I'm continually impressed by Alex. This guy doesn't have much of a background in competitive shooting and yet seems to be a naturally gifted shooter with just about anything. How many people can pick up a .50 cal and do as well as he did first time out?

A few things here. Jake would rather walk away than give someone the opportunity to defeat him. Thus he is a loser to us, but he never lost and that will be his personal justification. No way in hell would I walk away from a shot at $100,000 and any other potential rewards, especially if I made it to the last 6. He was a great shot and I as well as most of us thought he could win the competition. Something in his head isn't just right.
I would like to thank Jake for the drama he brought to the show. His drama sucked my wife and daughter in and now they are interested in watching for the shooting. Kind of a personal thing, but it worked for me. However, I am more than happy he is gone.

I'm also glad he's gone, but I wish he would have gotten eliminated.

My only issue with the whole outcome of the last episode is that it all feels way too scripted to me... Look back and re-watch the "fight" between Mike Hughes and Jake, Mike isn't that great of an actor Jake, "What are you gonna do Mike?". Mike, gritting his teeth like a honey badger, "Nothing... <dramatic pause> I'm not going to do anything". Then he gets eliminated, Jake quits and Mike comes back, and will probably win the whole thing.

"Quitters never win and winners never quit". Thanks for the life lesson, History channel.

Nope. I feel the same way. I can't quite figure out how he made it this far.

I do not see how Jake was a seal.....He does not seem to have the character that I think seals do. I have a lot of respect for our military and he does not seem to fit the profile.

GLAD he is gone. What a big baby.

I don't know about that seeming scripted. Sometimes people like Jake will push a normally level headed guy close to the edge, and Jake seems to excel at that. I think Mike really wanted to pounce on Jake after trying to reason with him, but realized that it wouldn't accomplish anything regardless of the outcome. I think it slowwwwwly registered in his head that as great as it would feel to swing on Jake, that it wouldn't display good sportsmanship.

My favorite teacher and I had a favorite saying, "It's easier to teach someone whose glass is empty, than someone whose glass is full."

In other words, take a student who doesn't know terribly much, hasn't been fed any bull about what's right or wrong, what have you. Teach him/her the skill you want him/her to learn.

This statement above, following in this context, is a lot easier than taking a student who is opinionated, knows the basics (or could be some advanced skills), and has heard every cock-and-bull scenario out there, and teaching him/her what you want him/her to learn.

Everyone has their own way of doing things, and those who are newer, or who have not had as much training, are easier to teach than those who have been through a number of classes. Having a "full glass" can be a benefit, but it can be a detriment. That person may want to learn what you have to teach, but their previous training could get in the way of that.

Someone who has an "empty glass" is easily molded, with all techniques that you're trying to teach, ingrained.

I'm kind of wondering whether or not Alex is filling the role of this individual.
