Hi, I have a Fin 1941 VKT D built on a 1895 captured receiver and it is a very nice shooter and a really nice rifle. I was wondering if there is a way to match the current blemish with something like a bluing that can be bought in a store like Dicks or gander mountain to fix the blemish? My second question is would it ruin the collectable value or even resell value? This rifle will be handed down to my daughter and hopefully one of her children, but assuming they don't shoot and want to sell it (50-60 years from now), Will they encounter problems of a reduced value due to it being a modified rifle?

Heres the pictures of the blemish:

Thanks.

I don't know about reducing the value, but it definitely won't increase it. From my experience with cold blue on Mosins, it might even make it more noticeable. I'd keep it how it is. It's part of the gun's history, even if it's unsightly.

It's possible our grandkids 50 to 60 years hence may not be permitted to own firearms. But in the meantime, I'd leave that rifle alone.

I am going to buck the trend here...
If you really like the rifle and do not plan on selling it;
get the metal work totally refinished.
Here are my reasons
1. Most Mosin (like most military rifles) where at on time or another arsonel rebuilt.
2. A high quality refinish will be a better finish than what's on it now.
3. You would not be"Bubbaing" the rifle, you would be restoring it to better than issue new condition.
3a. Tak a look at Gibbs Rifle company remanufactured 1903 Springfields
4. While many people are very emotional about M.N. It is your rifle.
5. Your Grand children will value the rifle because it was Yours.
6. If they don't value the Gun because it was yours- Well then it really didn,t matter anyway?

A Qtip and cold blue should do it. Just apply a little and rub with a soft cloth.

I'll have to join lefteye in the dungeon with the rest of the heathens.;)

All of my milsurps have had blueing touch-ups done, and in many cases the stocks have been completely refinished. While it would be nice if others found my rifles to be of some value, that's not why I bought them. I shoot them all and want the old girls to look their best.

Because a gun that looks its best, feels its best!:D
