Tough choice and need advise: Pro-Carry II vs Ultra Carry II

everyone that provided their thoughts: appreciate you all's positive feedbacks. And as I pointed out above to Old Dog, it's what I take home and will enjoy that matters.

I had two Kimber Pro Carry II 45ACP guns at different times. They were 100% right out of the box. Never had a problem with either of them. I had to sell them to pay for wife's medical bills.:( I now have a STI Ranger II 45ACP 19ll and Colt LW Commander 45ACP 1911. Both needed the extractors tuned so they would feed 100% reliably. You pays your money and takes your chances!!!!

For that kind of money I'd go find a series 70 commander. Buddy has a kimber and its ok but jams are common.

Why wouldn't he fix it. You make it sound like he's partially challenged. 1911s are not really a complex device and I always kind of shake my head when I hear someone say they've owned one, for some time, that doesn't work.

OP, you probably should just have gone to the 1911 forum and hit up the Kimber sub-forum with your questions ... around here, the Kimber haters and random fanboys (the expected DW shill showed up in the very first response, with Colt, S&W and SIG to follow ...) just show up to pollute your thread.

Geez guys. He asks about choosing between two models on one brand, and no helpful advice whatsoever in almost every post.

Uh, really, bub? Way to let everyone know about your personal experience there ...

My two cents, for whatever it's worth: I've got a splendid CDP Pro and a nice Tactical Pro, so the Pro-length would be my recommendation -- with the disclaimer that I've never had a Kimber Ultra, but did own two Springfield Armory Micro-Compacts, SA's version of the Ultra. Pros are easier to shoot, manage recoil better and the inch difference in barrel length affects concealment nought.
Here's my personal experience with them, they're pieces of crap. I have seen more malfunctions with Kimber than any other manufacturer. To say that it's not constructive advice to try to save somebody a thousand bucks is kind of ridiculous.

And I have shot many, many tens of thousands of rounds through Kimber 1911s, and had almost but not entirely flawless service from every single one of them. The only one that gave me any issue was an early BUL manufactured double stack that Kimber made/imported for a period of time more than a decade ago.

Part of my good fortune with Kimber's is attributed, in my mind, to my refusing to use Kimber supplied magazines and by never buying a model that was shorter in slide length than four inches. There is no doubt that the number of issues goes up dramatically as you shorten the 1911 pattern pistol slide length.
