What ever happened to the good old fashioned METAL sixguns we used to play with as kids?? The ones with working triggers that fired the little string caps or plastic caps?? I have been looking around for a set for my son and all I can find is a cheap little plastic noisemaker sixgun + levergun set. The stupid things even have a little red flashing lite on the side of the barrel for whenever the gun is "fired." When did kids toys go to crap like that? Are we so PC that no-one is allowed to make a good old fashioned cap gun????

I bring this up because my oldest son is getting real close to 3 years old and I want him to have a toy cowboy rig to play with abd learn the basics about guns before I introduce him to my real guns.

On another note I'll need TWO cowboy sets because my wife just delivered our second son Tuesday night at 8pm... 9lbs 9oz and 22.5 inches long...14 inches around the chest (I missed the shoulder measurement but with a 14 inch chest he has some broad shoulders!). So now I have 2 little cowboys to provide weapons and ammo for!

Now to the purpose of my rant... Anyone know where I can find a decent cowboy set of kids toys??

You might also scout the antique shops and e-bay. I fondly remember my old "Fanner Fifties". And then there was the "Lt. Johnny Eagle" toy M14 and 1911A1 set. They actually fired little plastic bullets from spring loaded cases. You loaded the magazines just like the real thing, you just had to manually cycle them, The M14 fired perforated roll caps that went into the trigger group. To open it, you pulled back and down on the trigger guard just like a real M14 or M1. The 1911A1 looked so darn real that my Mother about had a heart attack a few times because she thought I'd gotten hold of her real Colt.

Here is a link to the old catalog just to get you all maudlin and nostalgic.

SMLE those toy guns are neat. I'm remember as a kid those water guns that like
real guns and used batterys to make gun noises

THey still make the metal cap guns. My mother-in-law bought one for my 3 year old. I think she got it at WaMart.

I want one of those Lt. Johnny Eagle sets.

I never had one as a kid (never even seen one before) I feel so deprived.

Evil_Ed, Congrats on the new baby. I have two boys (5 and 2) that I bought some metal cowboy style guns for at Wal-mart or Kmart. I bought the guns before my kids were born, 'cause all I was seeing was green, pink or blue plastic space guns. They like shooting the paper caps in them and leave the trash in the garage, but heck, they're boys.

I bought each of them a cheap platic dart gun for christmas so they can begin their training. :)

Once in a while I stumble across a cool gun set and want to get it for them and my wife is like, "How many guns do they need?" Funny...she asks me the same question. My answer, "just one more."

Good Luck!

Notice that that Magumba really is a big-game rifle - like most better big-bores, the sling attaches to a barrel-band, rather than a stud on the fore-end, which can nail your hand on a heavy-recoilling rifle.

Great pics!
