Tracker .45ACP, can it shoot another caliber

I have a Taurus Tracker in .45ACP -six inch and ported. I was wondering if this pistol can take another caliber, like a .357/.38 can. It just seems like there is a LOT of room in front of the tip of the bullet and the end of the cylinder. Seems like you could get a whole bunch more casing in there. OR is this extra room for those 250/300 grn bullets I have heard about?

No. They set the headspace spec too tight to use the Auto Rim round.

You could probably handload the .45 acp round with heavier than normal bullets, but I'm not sure you'd be gaining much.

No, the tracker can't take anything other than 45. You might be thinking of Taurus' 454, which will also fire 45 Colt.

What about .45 Super?Same dimensions as a .45ACP but more pressure/power &,obviously,a revo has a fully supported chamber.

If I were you,telcom911,I'd call Taurus & ask a tech if they approve of .45Super in their gun.Can't hurt to call.

Just got off the phone with Taurus

and while they will not approve or recommend the practice. The service rep says the gun will handle 45Super, 450SMC, and 460Rowland.

However, any problems (like blowing the gun up) would not be covered under warranty.

Hm. I wonder if Clark Custom would convert a Tracker to 460 Rowland.
I'd much rather go that route than convert my 625.
I wonder how long the forcing cone would hold out - my 45 ACP Tracker's forcing cone is very thin-walled compared to my 625's cone.

Other than .45 GAP and/or .45 AR, I don't think so. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable trying any of the higher pressure variants like the .45 Super, .460 Rowland, etc.

Sure, it might well chamber and fire them without coming apart immediately. Or it might not. In any case, is it really worth some fingers or an eye to find out?
