has anyone heard of this?

I sorted my brass last night and have over 1000 casings in 9mm and .40 S&W, and near 500 .38 special.

I may reload someday but do not have start up money yet. So it is still more affordable to lay out $20 or less for 100 rds.

Is their an ammo manufacturer who takes brass in trade?

a few of the small time re manufacture guys will. I wouldn't bet on finding one though, plus they probably don't like the headstamp that you've got.

Save them up for a trade, get 1000 of em (sorted) and you can get 25$ in trade at a gun show, or on the trading post here.

I'm surprised more non-reloaders don't just pick up their own brass and sell it. You can get quite a bit of money for clean, once-fired brass from the same headstamp.

I would keep it if you have the slightest inkling of reloading someday. I wish I had the 3 years worth of brass I left for someone else before I started reloading. Or, sell it on ebay, you would be surprised what people will pay for brass on there.

Although Ebay is not a very liked entity here on THR, cleaned brass is going on average for 60.00 per K on Ebay. Totally prepped goes for almost 100.00 per K.

a Lee kit from midway is $70, dies are about $30. Powder is $12 per over a 1000, bullets are about $25 per 500.... Primers are 2 cents each.

The cost of getting into reloading pistol ammo (if you've got the brass) isn't that much, considering how high the costs of ammo are right now.
