Traded for a model 60 snub

i was not shooting my police trade-in Glock 22 much so I put it up locally for possible trades. I was intrigued when I was offered a S&W model 60-14 (2 1/8" barrel, steel frame) on a straight-across trade. I examined the gun and it was totally unblemished and clearly in as-new condition. The other party was happy with my G22 so our deal was struck. I now have my first snub-nose.

Shooting this little doodlebug is loads of fun, and I was surprised it was not more of a handful with my mid-power .357 handloads. This is my first J frame revolver and I am liking it big style. The front black sight is a bit hard to pick up so I think a little dayglo paint is in order.

And of course to make it feel right at home, some Altamont grips, a few speed strips, a holster, a 5 round speed loader, and some SD bullets have been requisitioned.

In my world the model 60 is the ICON of snub nose revolvers.

I have two of the breed. A 60 no dash and a 60-9 (1st of the magnums). Both have had action work, the no dash has a bobbed hammer and the -9 wears a set of Crimson Trace grips. Both are great J-frames.

Bill, you're gonna love that little revolver more each time you shoot it. I've had my old model 60 .38 special since 1975, and it's seen many thousands of rounds of ammo through it with zero malfunctions of any kind. That's 39 years of flawless service. You can't beat a Smith J frame for a good all around gun. This gun has traveled all over the country with me and my family, hiked in backcountry, went on canoe trips in the Boundry Waters area, and been up and down the A.T. on backpacking trips. Twice in those 39 years it convinced a two legged varmint to go elsewhere. I'll die with this gun on my bed stand. Never give it up.

Lots of people say "if you've seen a Gl**k you've seen them all." No one ever says that about J's.

Model 60

I have an early 60 in 38Spl that has seen many thousands of Col. Cooper's favorite snub load, a load which (we didn't know then) is way over today's max published loads. Some of you old timers (like me...) may remember his loads were quite warm.

This old 60 isn't quite as tight as new (small wonder) but still shoots well. Tough little guns.

These days the 640/357 and 940 see most of the snubby action, along with the 642.
